I only saw a little bit of the fight, but I already knew what would happen when Tyron threw like one punch in the first round. Maybe he thought he had it locked since he never got hurt in the fight, but his lack of urgency just kills me. The Luque fight aside, his last three UFC fights before that just had him frozen and still sitting and waiting even when he was down 4 rounds to 0. I don't get it.
Giga looked great on Saturday, I'd take him vs Holloway any day of the week. The Kevin Lee experience seems to have ended.
He's obnoxious and entitled enough when it comes to MMA, so I can't imagine what he's like with this. haha. I'm happy he got paid off of this whole ordeal, but I don't want to hear his thoughts on the match or a rematch with Jake Paul (that still feels odd to type out). I'm sure he's just itching for another payday like this because he won't be able to make even a fraction of the money to go stand still for five rounds in a Bellator fight.
I refuse to acknowledge any of that circus. The dude doesn’t box boxers, and cherry picks opponents. Woodley was an easy transition from Ben because of the shit talk and public hype. Woodley was down for the money and never once denied it. He’s never boxed once and from what I read, nearly knocked his head off still. Goes to say a lot about the guy ranting and raving about his own skills that are non-existent in the boxing/mma world comparatively. Paul does not care about fighter pay. He’s a social media ignorant rich kid who’s the public heel right now and very much eating it up while he can.
Just coming into the thread at a time when it’s the conversation and adding my unwarranted 2 cents lol.
I don’t even mind Woodley taking that freakshow match and like I said, I’m happy he got paid…but something about posting all of his photos, bragging about his (boring) performance in a split decision loss, and pleading for a rematch just feels super cringey to me. Come on man, I know it’s not MMA, but youre still a RECENT champion who lost to a YouTuber due to your chronic problem of sitting and staring at your opponent… Don’t try to act like you won or had an amazing performance. At least Ben accepted his payday and moved on.
Yeah sadly it kinda doesn’t surprise me. Woodley has been trying to ride waves for years but just never really broke that glass ceiling before this fight, which is probably why he’s so desperately trying to capitalize on it. I bet he even gets the tattoo to make it happen.
We'll always have Woodley's sub over Till, which was awesome. Speaking of Till, he really needs a win this weekend. Aspinall in the co-main is awesome, hope he puts on a good one. Pimblett's UFC debut too.
Till is a funny case because I feel like the UFC is really wanting to feed him a title shot, but he just can't get there. Izzy is even teeing it up for him and basically calling him out to skip the line, but it just doesn't work out. A close decision win, a decision loss, and then he's pulled out of two contender fights due to injury.
Till does not deserve a title shot at all. I think it’s crazy how fast the UFC tried to bump him up the rankings cause the man has done nothing substantial outside of his KO of Cerrone (who in that weight class top 10 doesn’t have one of those on their record) and a lackluster decision over Wonderboy. All about presentation and having a sellable personality to the bro fans of MMA who like shit talkers. Cause that’s exactly what he was coming into the UFC. A guy who was undefeated with a bunch of KO’s on nobodies yelling louder than everyone else. He then went on to get dominated by Woodley, cracked by Masvidal and has looked OK at best in the middleweight division. All the shit talk stopped since he’s been humbled.
To be fair to Till, he was undefeated and Woodley had cleaned out the shallow division when he got the title shot. I actually think Brunson takes it, but even if he doesn't, Izzy would be a heavy heavy favorite.
I guess to me, undefeated doesn’t hold much weight when most of the wins are from very small promotions. For the guys that emerge from them loud and with solid records, the bigger promotions will grab them ASAP and hope they’ll pay off if they market them heavy. Exactly how we find out who’s a can and who’s not. No doubt Till belongs in the top 10, but he for sure was getting heavy coverage and advertising around that time and had his shot streamlined. I also really hate to see how the internet talks about Woodley like they are completely unaware of his Strikeforce days and only acknowledge post-Conor era fights when they started paying attention to the promotion. His finishes over Hieron, Koscheck and Kim never get mentioned nor his good fight with Gastelum. I see his Lawler KO and Till submission on reels and that’s about it.
Yeah, Poirier better take this title shot now while he can. He can always go back to money fights if he loses.
