Heavyweight is a puzzle for sure. To quote my favorite Targaryen... "They're all just like spokes on a wheel. This one's on top, and that one's on top, and on and on it spins." Maybe Stipe is different, but so far, they're all just playing Rock-Paper-Scissors. Always a foil for everyone.
Looks like there's only 45 minutes or so left for the weigh ins right now and Anderson Silva is still a no show. haha. Media is all sitting there killing time waiting on him. Edit: Welp, he woke up from his nap and made weight. All good.
Joe Rogan: "So next is Cyborg....what do you think of that fight". GDR: Ah well Joe, I had chicken pox and lice when I was 4....I just haven't had time to get those taken care of. Gonna take some time to do that and then we will see. ....good call. She said she has to get torn ligaments in her hand fixed from a fight TWO years ago? lol.
Man, I hate being a fan of Holly's. She was winning the MIesha fight then got stopped in the last round...fair enough. She lost a really close, but uneventful fight against Valentina. That sucks... Then this event where the majority thinks she won AND she got cheap shotted on more than one occasion? Just pitiful.
I think Holly is too proud and classy to do it, but I bet she could get it overturned to an NC if she really tried. Can't believe Dana doesn't want a rematch considering the division is at a halt until Cyborg returns anyway.
They need Cyborg in before a rematch. Can't imagine a rematch would sell anything, at least not a main event spot. There is no 145 roster, so they can take their time waiting for Cyborg and go from there.
Yeah I think a lot of it is timing. If it's clear Cyborg is going to be out a while, then I say go for the rematch. Without Cyborg, there aren't many matches that make sense for Holly or GDR.
oh wow...it's actually going to happen. Georges St-Pierre and UFC agree to terms, close to finalizing new contract
I don't really even want to see GSP back. I want to see someone actually go out on top, but they can never do it. They always want to push it as far as they can.
Say he came back and fought Woodley, assuming he still has the title, wins and retires again. I'd be ok with that.
You know, I'm fine with GSP coming back if he doesn't want to fight for a title. He's a guy where "money" fights would be fun, legacy already secured. If he wants to make a title run at 170, that's fine too, but I don't need him to do it.
I would kind of like to see it too if he can still compete, but a ton of the match ups we wanted to see back in the day are no longer relevant, I guess. Even the "money" fights unless he decides he wants to take out McGregor.
Run him back against Diaz, that's a good co-main and instant $$$. If GSP wants a tune up before the belt, Masvidal or Lawler would be a good option, Maia would probably take the bait on that one too. Like I said earlier, if he really wants Bisping (provided the Count loses) I'm good with that too. Anything else starts to get weird. Cerrone could be fun, but I think Georges smothers him. Guess he could do the loser of Wonderboy/Woodley (barring any fuckery in their fight) but who knows if they'll be ready to go by Q3 of 2017. The Conor thing would be dumb, but I could see Conor/UFC coming to their senses, burying the Mayweather talk and setting this fight up ASAP.
See, I'm the opposite on almost all accounts. I'd love to see him against the top Welterweights and Lightweights (he said a lot of Lightweights are larger than he is). No interest in another fight with Diaz because I think Lawler, Maia, Masvidal, etc. are harder fights for him anyway. I also don't see a point in a fight with Bisping if it's not for the title. There's no real interest there other than two big names, but they could accomplish that with a handful of people. I also don't see how a fight with Conor would be dumb since it would be a HUGE fight to set up. The two-division champ fighting one of the greatest of all time, as well as two of the biggest names ever associated with the sport.
