Yep. Winner of that fights the loser of Dustin v Conor. Chandler doesn’t get to win 1 fight and get another shot. He’s gotta win 2. Same for Gaethje.

Surely. Dustin on merit, Conor because Conor.

It’s weird that we just crowned a champ tonight when Dustin is probably still the true number one. Same with Featherweight where we are about to have another title fight but Max is just out there kicking it as the realistic number one lol.

  4. tbf with featherweight, Volk's last two fights were him beating Max. So it does make sense to let someone else get a shot.

  5. And I really don't think Dustin is clearly the top guy compared to Oliveira. Dude has 9 wins in a row, all finishes in 1st or 2nd round, except for the Tony fight (which he absolutely destroyed Tony for the entire fight but Tony is literally impossible to finish). He is a very deserving champ.

I absolutely don’t think it was said as a knock to Charles at all, but regardless, Dustin made his choice for $ over the belt so with that, Charles is the man.

Dustin is smart to take the money. He dominated Conor the first time so I think the rematch is a fairly safe fight for him and he will get a title shot anyways. Olivera is a much more dangerous fight for him than Conor and I honestly favor Olivera against Dustin.

I meant both of those in theory, not really insulting either guy who are the rightful champs and have earned it the hard way. I was just talking out loud really. It’s just weird the way things shake out where those two guys MIGHT very well be the best in each respective division yet they aren’t participating in the most recent title fights.

  10. Hell yeah Charles!!

yeah it's sad and I don't see him as the kind of guy who will handle this the right way

  14. tough to see Tony presumably going out the way he is. it’s always worried me what he may do considering what he’s done in the past with the whole “they’re spying on me” thing. he looked so eerily empty in the post fight.

I don’t remember who it was, but someone more recently in an interview talked about how guys in the ufc are getting so good at throwing those counter left hooks, same as what Oliveira landed on Chandler. Southpaws already have had a lot of success with the counter right over the top, but guys like Conor have been getting caught with it. Garbandt, Poirier, Whittaker and quite a few others have nasty counter left hooks.

I'd put Charles as the favorite against Dustin or Conor. Huge win for him, Chandler is still right there too.

I don't really know what to say about Tony. Dude is a maniac, but you don't not tap to a heel hook and be the same afterwards. Tough as hell, but not a smart business decision.

He looked so unbelievably checked out when they announced the decision. Scary checked out. I think for some like Ferguson, Penn, Sanchez and others they have lived most of their adult life being UFC main staples who never had to consider the next step. I think it’s extremely hard for them to come to terms with their careers coming to an end and do not have healthier outlets/avenues to lean back on when it’s done.

Not to blow more smoke up his ass but GSP is a shining example of how fighters have to adapt and figure out new means of a career once they aren’t fighting. He doesn’t feel any need to come back because he’s seeing success in other facets of his life.

I don’t know if this is exactly it, but I think a lot of it just comes down to self-awareness. There isn’t one exact way to be a fighter so some guys like Diego, Tony and BJ got by on things like toughness, grit, determination, love of brawling/scrapping, etc. Once that stops being enough, it’s hard for them to step back and look at themselves objectively like “hey man, maybe it’s not for me anymore...” They believe they just need to get determined and motivated again and they’ll get back to winning.

I guess what I’m getting at is that these types of guys get much more attached to their “fighting spirit” compared to guys like GSP who view it as a sport or athletic competition. Those types usually tend to be more aware of when they are fading and need to bow out (DC and Askren also come to mind).

This is pretty much what I expected.... He just thinks he needs to get pumped up and he'll be fine, but it doesn't exactly work like that. Hopefully if they keep him around for another fight, they do something like give him a Nate Diaz or run it back with Cowboy and call it good. It's obvious that anyone who can take him down will be able to keep him there, so if he really wants to continue, might as well give him a fun one where he can stand and trade.

Garbrandt vs Font is such a good fight it’s crazy we get it on a Fight Night card. Cody better not get roped into a slugfest again cause Font has some serious hands.

  21. I think Font puts him out. But could go either way. Great fight

He’s generally struggled and lost against top fighters, but Garbrandt is the exact type of fight Font usually does well with.

Lol Derrick Lewis posted on IG today that some dude tried to break into his car. Also posted a photo of the guy being put into the cop car with his head bandaged, and a picture of his fist on his story with “he’s ok.”

Can you imagine being dumb enough to break into cars in broad daylight, then seeing Derrick Lewis coming at you.

About time. Although maybe that little parasite Fabia just found a new host to consume (please not Tony Ferguson).
