I know Tony’s got whooped in his last two fights, but looking at who Dariush has fought lately, this is a massive jump in competition. I don’t really see how he got this fight. I’m expecting Tony to win rather comfortably.
I’m thinking we’ll see vintage Tony as well. I do think the fight makes at least a bit of sense in terms of rankings though. Dariush keeps getting stuck crushing guys who are right on the fringe so he needed to step into the fire. I feel like his loss to Barboza permanently sent him into no mans land, and he couldn’t get a top 10 fight again. This also should be a good test to see where Tony is. If he struggles with Dariush, it might confirm that his time has come and gone.
Yeah, no that’s fair. Some times dudes have to make a big jump purely to get a fight in the top 10 or whatever. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
4 performance of the night bonuses in his last 4/5 and one of the most exciting and electrifying comeback finishes of all time against Klose is how he got here. Great story, excited to see that fight so much. I expect fireworks. Honestly also getting the feeling Chandler takes the title with ease. No real grounds to it except I get the feeling Oliveira isn’t as sharp as we’ve been seeing and folds from the pressure again. Chandler seems ready and has been here many times before.
Oliveira is great but styles make fights and I just don't really see him offering anything to Chandler that he can't handle. maybe I'm wrong tho and he finds a way to submit him or grind out a decision
Now that the time's here, I'm leaning Chandler as well. Oliveira's best chance at victory (IMO) is to land some clean straight punches, get him hurt and then pounce on a submission. I think Chandler's chin can potentially be a little suspect after some of the wars he's been in. Charles can definitely get it done, but I just think Chandler has fought similar guys before and overwhelmed them.
Yeah, I just really like Dariush so I'm happy to see him get the opportunity. That said, I also want to see Tony come out strong. I would be really sad to see him on a three-fight skid after the run he had.
I think Oliveira has a great chance with counter submissions if Chandler wrestles him. On the feet, Chandler is a problem for DB.
Diego cut off several members of his family who tried talking sense into him this (for sure) will not end well for him
also: Alex Morono is one of the most intelligent, well-spoken and just self-aware fighters I have ever seen on the mic. he'd be great calling fights. definitely a fan
he just did an AMA on reddit. seems like a really cool guy. looking forward to tonight's card. i was initially on Dariush/Olivera winning but with Tony being Tony and talking shit to Chandler, i'd like to see them go at it with a belt on the line.
I feel like that’s just a tactic to get Jones to settle. I have no interest in Stipe fighting Francis again so soon. I’d rather see the winner of Gane/Volkov get the shot if that’s really the case.
I wouldn’t mind Stipe getting another shot. He wasn’t prepared for Francis in the last fight but if he wants another shot I wouldn’t be surprised to see him find a way to compete. The guy has hardly lost and when he has he’s always come back better.
