I think a lot of fights had fallen through. The Ferguson / Khabib fight was shooting for that card. So was Woodley v. Nick Diaz.

I think Hunt v. Overeem is happening, though.

  2. I'm hoping Aldo or Cowboy make it on there.

I have to kind of laugh at Meryl Streep's comments last night. Her speech was great and well-intended for the most part, but the sort of smug comments about football and MMA kind of undermined her whole point, in my opinion. The entire spiel was in support of diversity and inclusion, something that MMA has done in spades. Not only does it literally bring athletes and fans together from around the world, but it's also done more to promote female athletes to mainstream success than any other sport in recent memory.

She can get into whatever "art vs. non-art" debate she wants, but it's irrelevant. If you're going to make a speech about the need for acceptance of other cultures, don't try to slip in an insult directed at an entire group of people and a sport which you are very obviously ignorant of. "I think we should accept everyone for who they are...except those people. I don't approve of those people" So ironic, it hurts.

Yeah it was an out of context jab at two sports franchises that really didn't have much to do with her overall objective.

  5. The rumor floating around now is that 209 will be: Khabib-Ferguson, Wooley-Thompson, Overeem-Hunt.

    I'm down for that.

207 is said to have done massive numbers, possibly even record breaking.

Obviously the Streep remark is just an extension of the CAA vs. WME beef.

I think Ronda fights again, but I think it'd be naive to think she can carry a card by herself anytime soon.

Yeah 100% agreed. I'd say if maybe she didn't get pummeled and had lasted few rounds/put up a good fight things would still be the same for her.

    LOL
Woodley trying to negotiate a fight on Twitter doesn't interest me at all. At least he's sticking to active welterweights this time around.

(Coming from the guy who has Woodley in his profile picture...) You lost three rounds in a title fight and didn't finish. It was a draw. What is so hard to understand?

Can't understand all of these people (Woodley included) who think Wonderboy is undeserving of a title shot. If people don't want to see it again, fair enough, but I already know people are not going to be pumped to watch Maia vs. Woodley. Neither are a draw, really. Saying Wonderboy is "entitled" after you sat out a year and a half after beating DHK and Gastelum is just a little hypocritical. Gotta think he's trolling there.

  13. Yeah, I think he's definitely signing the contract for the Wonderboy fight.

Maia was asking just the other day why Woodley has not mentioned him as a contender... Gotta think he's not pulling for it now lol I also don't get why people are so adamant about Wonderboy not getting another shot... Since when do they not want to see a rematch of a FOTN that ended in a draw?!

The only person I've seen who doesn't seem into a rematch is Woodley. Which, fine, but you better have something concrete lined up then. Begging McGregor/Bisping/Diaz for a "legacy" fight is so off putting when your only defense was a draw. If you're not that great on the mic (which he really isn't) and can't pull off the WWE route like McGregor, you better clear out the division to build interest.

I agree with you, but once again, check out any of the UFC or MMAFighting's posts about either of them....overwhelmingly flooded with people saying "THOMPSON GOT HIS ASS BEAT IT WASN'T A DRAW". Can't believe how hardheaded people are. Makes me really wonder what the consensus really is on anything these days lol

There's people that weren't satisfied with a draw result?! I thought the judges nailed it.

Re: Streep. MMA is 100% not gonna be for everyone. But she should've done a little more research if she's gonna take the biggest stage to make remarks like she did
When the UFC roster is over damn near close to half foreign. 5 different nationalities of champions and the biggest draw card is an Irish man. I'm happy if people don't want to call punching people in the face not art (despite the A in MMA) but she looked quite silly and uneducated with the foreigners bit

There are just still too many people with their heads up their asses who can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that it doesn't matter if you almost finished the fight in a single round.... He lost three rounds. Wonderboy might have gotten flattened in round 4, but he was clearly the fresher fighter at the end of the fight, for what it's worth.

Both of them laid it all out there and neither deserved to lose. It just happened to be that a draw was the accurate outcome. Can't see why people are griping.

Nice. I might be at 209 for my bachelor party. I'd love to see Woodley v. Thompson 2.

A friend of mine does my head in. He's been watching MMA for at least 5yrs but can never grasp the fact (outside of rare 10-8 rounds) belting someone in a round to nearly finish counts exactly the same as a narrowly won round and goes on about cheating judges

Aw yeah. Woodley / Wonderboy 2 and Ferguson / Khabib would make a great top of the card. And then Hunt / Overeem should be fun.
