Yeah the the Contender Series I thought they’d get rid of TUF especially since the Contender series has led to the discovery of quite a few top 15 fighters. TUF is such an outdated concept and nobody gives a shit about it anymore.
I know Masvidal is a star nowadays, but I’m having trouble getting excited for that or seeing how they sell that rematch when it was 50-45 the first time and a snoozer at that. “It was short notice” is their only angle (while also ignoring that Usman hadn’t prepped for Masvidal either). Edit: Actually you’re wrong that no one else asked for it... Usman himself did which is why we are getting this. Haha.
True. I think maybe Usman could finish him this time around. He’s so good. Survived hard shots from Burns early so he can do the same with Masvidal.
this is a bad fight for Masvidal imo. sure he fights for the title in a main event and I'm sure gets more than a decent payday for it but his stock drops a lot if and when Usman humiliates him again
They keep acting like this will be different but I’m just not really seeing it unless Masvidal ends up clocking him early like Burns did. With the short notice thing, no one really points out that Masvidal might not have been “in camp” but he was preparing for Usman for a while at that point because it was the only fight he was willing to take. Also, Usman was definitely in shape but he was prepared for Burns and not Masvidal, so that short notice fight made him do what he had to do in order to win. So I think if anything, Usman will be more prepared for Masvidal this time, not the other way around.
I know it was never discussed really but I think Usman would’ve been a great challenge for Khabib who could’ve easily fought at 170. They both had plenty of challengers and draw for their own reasons these past few years, and never seemed to cross each other’s radars because of it. Then he retired, but I would’ve paid to see that for sure.
They are just capitalizing on Masvidal’s draw which is going to be short lived regardless. Dude doesn’t even have an impressive UFC record at 12-7. He just blew up after that Asken finish which was great, but also very lucky. My guess is if he loses they will try to run back the Diaz fight once Diaz gets wrecked by Edwards.
I definitely don’t take away from him that finishing Till, Askren and Diaz like so back to back was worth the hype, but how things have played out since make me really kinda not give a fuck about him.
Also I’m just gonna continue being a hater today and say Pitbull gets washed by 9 out of 10 of the top ten UFC lightweights.
Wonderboy and Burns can go either way tbh but I see Leon finishing Nate with elbows or grinding out a decision
Yeah I see Leon being a bad matchup for Nate. He'll light him up with kicks from range and his volume/pace/gas tank will hold up to Nate's so there won't be any sort of momentum shift midway through the fight (which Nate usually seems to bank on).
