Garbrandt has to get past Dillashaw before anything. That'll be a crazy competitive fight. Edmund, yeesh man, what a bad game plan.
I just watched the fight again and can't even understand what's going on in her head. I was expecting her to come out and blitz like her old days to lock up that clinch, but instead she came out and stood (not circled...) on the outside with her chin straight up in the air. It's just insane how someone who was probably the most dominant fighter at one time just looked like she had never trained before. I realize Bethe Correia is nowhere near the level of Amanda Nunes, but if you compare Ronda in those two fights, it's like her striking got even worse. At least back then she was throwing jabs and hooks and level changing instead of slowly plodding forward and pawing at her opponent. She was clearly throwing combos to get in that clinch. I truly think that in this last fight, she went in there with the intention of trying to prove something with her striking and then got scared shitless and froze.
I just want everyone to defend their beltsthe way Bisping and Woodley want to ignore worthy contenders is so off putting for two guys that I generally like (more Woodley than Bisping). And I don't know. Like, it takes a whole lot to get me to side with the UFC, but you signed the contract. I'm always torn on that issue.
I think it's funny just because it's causing the UFC problems. They let Conor call all of the shots and opened up that can of worms so they should have known all the other champs were going to start trying to do the same (not to mention causing the rest of the roster to want more money). I mean even Rousey had the same thing going. She got paid a legitimate 15 times what Amanda did and got to sit out of the media all week long, only to look like a helpless toddler out there for less than a minute. The UFC are the ones setting these goofy precedents.
I don't think UFC is losing when super fights like the rumored above happen. They're going to make big money. And I don't mind it happening as long as they can find a balance between those type of fights and title fights.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the less I think the UFC actually cares. These headlines keep their brand in the news in a sport without an off season, keep nerds like us talking about it and really, they always have new stars coming up. At the end of the day, they don't have a problem telling their talent "no" or feeding them to the wolves like they did to Ronda.
It doesn't hurt them financially, no, but I mean it causes problems in that their fighters are now more outspoken and finally starting to all really push and pull for what they want.
I don't see Conor fighting Woodley at all. This whole crossing weight classes to fight one guy each time is dumb to me.
Former WWE announcer and current ESPN analyst Todd Grisham will be taking Mike Goldberg's spot in the UFC. He's got a four event FS1 trial starting with the Phoenix show.
Grisham was perhaps the most unremarkable WWE play-by-play guy in recent memory, but who knows, maybe he'll do well
He isn't the replacement for Goldberg. He will be hosting the studio panel from LA for fight nights and will probably be a backup announcer when Anik isn't available or when they have multiple events on the same weekend in the US. Grisham would never be lead announcer for UFC while Anik is still employed by the company.
For real. I planned my bachelor party in Vegas around the 209 card hoping to go see some good fights. I want names!
I'm hoping to go as well. But there's been no fights announced and no word on when ticket sales open up.
