I’ve been watching the best of the best go up against this guy for over a decade and seen them all fail. Every single one was supposed to have the answer. He is the most well-rounded MMA fighter we’ve seen in the UFC.
Pretty much. He’s had blips. You can argue the Gus and Reyes wins. But he had no shortcomings in the cage. GSP and Anderson both did eventually. I’m not sure Jones will fight long enough to see that day come. Doesn’t makeup for him being a shit bag but he’s the best of all time.
And he’s only 33. Younger than Ngannou and Stipe. He’s the only one to start so early on, be dominant from there on out and literally has defended the LHW title every year for the past decade. I don’t see how you can’t be interested in his fighting career as long as he’s active. But absolutely true in that he’s a garbage human being outside of the octagon. It’s an awful paradox to realize as a fan.
My own and opinion with literally no merit behind it but I always personally had doubts that GSP was completely clean fwiw. but I’m also in the “most of these guys are on roids” boat.
Nothing would surprise me, but I really think that fight is 50/50 Jones by decision and Ngannou by KO. Jon hasn’t even been wobbled in his career and hasn’t taken much damage even against a lot of really heavy hitters, so I wouldn’t doubt if he could evade Francis long enough and pick at him from the outside until some of that sting comes off those punches. Not taking anything at all away from Francis, but I still think he probably looks somewhat human if you can get him into the later rounds (which I realize is a big ask). Realistically, I think Jones holds this fight up in negotiations and we see Francis fight someone else beforehand. I’d be really curious to see him against Gane or even Volkov who could pick at him from a distance and avoid the big shots early. Betting they give him Lewis though.
That’s exactly why. Much like music, I don’t separate the art from the artist. Jon is trash, and I have zero interest in watching him compete aside from actively rooting that he gets clobbered. I also don’t think he’s been half as exciting to watch in recent years as some people let on.
I was a big Jon Jones fan, I could see past the substance abuse stuff and his misbehavior during that, but there's a lot more since then that has made it impossible to support him. I agree @333 GANG, it has been a long time since Jon blew me away with a fight, the DC KO was probably the last time and that was of course tainted.
Yup, pretty much sums up my thoughts. I was never a huge fan of his personality, but I at least used to enjoy watching him compete, so much so that I bought tickets three times to watch him fight. He used to look like a world beater almost every time out, and that was exciting. Then came one fuck up after another, far too many for me to overlook, and his performances have been pretty dull by comparison in recent memory. Now I just have no real interest in him as a whole, aside from hoping he gets humbled.
I feel like Lewis vs Gane would be a stinker similar to Game’s last fight. Gane would pick Lewis apart in a rather uneventful fight. I’d rather see Gane fight Blaydes or Stipe.
ya know, they're 1-1 now but I honestly wouldn't wanna see the rubber match. if Ngannou hits him like that again then Stipe is risking some serious CTE and I really don't want to see that happen. he's the GOAT. if I had my way, he'd retire tbh
Also, not that I think Stipe is undeserving, but at this point, I don’t know what it accomplishes to run it back. They sort of gave him the automatic rematch with DC the first time (eventually) out of respect. He won it again and had only one defense before getting KOed so... I think you let Francis have his time and let some other contenders have their chance since it’s been mostly just two people in the title picture for three years.
There’s been rugby games in Australia that have had 52,000 people recently, you could sell it out there. New Zealand have a had similar
I highly doubt Australia or New Zealand is going to let a company from our stupid country host a huge event over there this soon considering a good portion of people won’t even get vaccinated and I assume a lot of UFC fighters/trainers fall in that category lol
speaking of having the answer, remember when Johnny Walker was being hyped up as the answer to Jones before Corey Anderson knocked him out?
Bellator released their rankings and they aren’t bad. Definitely kinda helps visualize those divisions more since I’m not familiar with a ton of their young guys.
