Did you see Coach on twitter saying how WWE "absolutely will not" do that? Not saying he's right but I certainly was surprised by how brazenly he stated that. Still think there is tons of money in a Ronda WWE run, even if she is a tad more damaged goods now. These 2 loses might be the actual gateway to allowing a run to even occur so why wouldn't WWE throw their name in that hat?
Rousey is still more overrated. She entered a sport in it's infancy, dominated mostly cans, is touted as being able to beat pretty much any male fighter, and then when she is faced with legitimate competition and adversity, she crumbles. Tebow knew the extent of his strengths but I don't think Ronda knows the extent of her strengths because we just watched her try to stand and bang with a boxer when her striking is horrible.
I think my weirdest takeaway from tonight is that it doesn't really feel like Cody "solved" the Cruz puzzle. It just seems like Dom fought a mediocre fight. I'm not sure. Add in the accidental head butt that kind of escalated the fight and it makes it weirded. I guess I just thought if someone beat him, there would be this realization like "oh, THAT'S how you beat him!" but it was kind of like his own game worked against him.
I'm trying to think, but I can't recall anyone like Rousey where so many people were adamant that she was a "once in a lifetime" athlete at one point then later completely turned and were positive that she was a joke. I mean, obviously there have been hype trains that got derailed but nothing to her degree from that positive to that negative.
What do you mean? I thought two gave Cody a 10-8 round in the 4th and the third didn't, and that was the only difference. I need to rewatch (sober) but I thought Cruz won the second and fifth rounds while the first was pretty damn close. I gave Cody the fight 100%, don't get me wrong (just playing devil's advocate), but it still speaks to how shitty the scoring system is when a guy can get beat up that badly and still have a case for winning (or drawing).
When the scores were read I heard "48-47" from one of the judges. I had Garbrandt winning every round, though I can see why Cruz would be given the second.
stoked for dillashaw/garbrandt. though if cody looks like anything resembling what he did last night then tj may not have a chance
Yeah I got ya, I just don't know why that particular score bothered you. They all gave Cruz two rounds. He just didn't score the fourth a 10-8 like the other two. And yes, I am beyond stoked for Cody vs. TJ. The rivalry there is much better than Dom/TJ and Dom/Cody, if that is possible.
Oh the other judges gave him two rounds? I couldn't hear all the scores. I just remember hearing the one I mentioned. That's crazy to me. No way Cruz got two rounds. I guess it doesn't matter in the end. Just odd.
Yeah they all scored it 3-2, in some way or another. I didn't think it was too outrageous to give Cruz the second and fifth. Even the first round was a case of Cruz landing more but Cody landing more significantly.
Wow. What a night. I'm really disappointed that Cruz lost. I never imagined the fight going down that way. Cody getting a decision win? Kid deserved it, though. He was dominant. And Ronda? That was awful. She had literally no head movement. Just kept walking straight into Amanda's punches. What the hell was she doing during training? I can't even imagine. At least UFC have a new young star in Cody that they can try and market. Cody / McGregor at 145 makes a lot of sense after TJ / Cody.
That's probably too true. I wonder what she would have been if she actually found herself at a gym with great coaches.
Not interested in seeing McGregor fight more guys that size. I would honestly rather see Mighty Mouse move up and fight those top three guys.
