Trained striking and then froze lol she did not even attempt to stick to her strength because she thought she had something to prove with her striking. Exactly why I was hesitant picking her. I was more disappointed in Cruz. He was not nearly as mobile as usual and still tried point fighting when he was down on the scorecards. He needs to work on being more of a finisher.
That was as embarrassing as the CM Punk fight. Holmes broke her to the core and Nunes scattered the pieces.
It won't happen but I think Ronda could beast out if she went and spent some time at Tristar with Firas Zahabi.
No joke. A legitimately world class athlete should not be embarrassed like that if they have a good team. What's sad is I (and a lot of people) said this is what Rousey would look like years ago if she were matched up with legitimate strikers that didn't freeze up out of fear. All of her fights were either very favorable match ups or the people who could have outstruck her were so scared they couldn't pull the trigger. Once that aura was shattered by Holly, it was over.
that was amateurish and infinitely more damaging to her legacy than the holm fight. that was humanizing on a level, this just reaffirmed what a flawed fighter she is. incredibly poor technically, but that's almost secondary to the real issue which is that she doesn't learn anything. she's not good enough to just trade hands and that's been evident for a while.
Rondas done with everything for a while. No WWE, no movies, no fighting. She's not going to have the star power she once had anymore. She's should just enjoy retirement and play all of the Warcraft she can. Maybe in a few years the aura will be back and can reappear randomly somewhere, but the safest thing for her to do is to just enjoy life for a bit. That being said, what a fucking dumb gameplan. Edmund shouldnt be coaching anything and she shouldn't believe she could out box world class boxers. Those shots Holly gave her last year must have done some real damage because she did not think this through at all
Yup - add in the fact that she has never been hurt until the Holm fight and tonight proves that she had no idea how to recover from a punch
It's pretty much just stubbornness from all of them: her team for thinking a striking-based gameplay was the way to go and Rousey for not learning that they are full of shit. She should have swallowed her pride and stuck with her bread and butter. Not try to prove that the Holm fight was a fluke or something. Her striking sucks. Just accept it, try to improve, but do what you need to do to win.
But I'm being a butthole to Ronda, I actually like Ronda a lot. She got handled twice but (And I'm obviously guilty myself) in all the jokes gotta give her respect for making a big impact in not just womens mma but mma and sports as a whole. Domnated a stacked division for a while. Blueprint may be out, and it may be time for her to move on. But tip of the cap to Ronda. All teasing aside.
I feel bad for Rousey. Always enjoyed watching her. But I'm pretty excited for Nunes. She's such a beast. Garbrandt had one of my favorite performances of the year. That was ridiculous. Cruz was beyond embarrassed tonight. I loved all of it.
I will admit I'm still relatively new to Nunes myself but I remember watching her a couple fights back lower on the card (excuse my ignorance I'm more a wrestling mark than a MMA head) and I was really into her. I'm really happy for her, as well as sad for Ronda, simultaneously.
