Not sure really. It’s always possible he could be Jan’s first title defense that hasn’t been announced, or facing the winner of Jiri and Dom. Khabib and Jon vacating make two divisions very interesting for a bit.
GSP: "There are many guys that have been the greatest fighter of all time. It's an impossible thing to be. We all have moments where we shine. Khabib, tonight, was the greatest of all time. Anderson when he KO'd Vitor, was the greatest of all time. JJ when he beat DC, was the greatest of all time." : MMA “Adesanya, when he beat Paulo Costa last time was the greatest of all time. BJ Penn when he beat Matt Hughes. You know everybody has their own moment where they shine. But everything in life, there is a beginning and an end. We all have our window of being the greatest of all time. Like everybody that has a flawless performance. But it’s just a fugazi. It’s something that appears and will disappear in a second. After one year of that performance is over it disappears because that moment will never happen again. The universe has changed and it’s just a fugazi. I don’t believe in this debate. I mean, it’s a silly way to look at things. There are many guys who can claim to be the greatest of all time and for sure Khabib is one of them — 100%. Especially what he had done tonight.” (GOAT)
Chael was a bit of a shitbag and a cheat but man was it always fun when he was promoting a fight. An entertainer for sure.
Also so funny how salty Jones is over the P4P ranking. He’s posted about it every day since trying to throw shade.
Georges always has the most reasonable and honest take on pretty much everything. He has so much more humility than a lot of these guys which is why he's able to frame it in an open and honest way. Admitting that he doesn't really like to "fight", that he gets scared and anxious before fights, that many matchups would play out different on any given night, etc.
I'll keep saying this until it happens, but GSP needs to get in the competitive grappling circuit. I don't like Izzy/Jan right now. Get Jan a defense or two, give Izzy Rob again and we can revisit it. I'll go with Mousasi to win tonight.
I'd watch this for sure, but it would bum me out for a couple of reasons. 1) Izzy moving up right as Jon Jones vacates would be...underwhelming. 2) There are actually challengers at 205 (for once) that I'm wanting to see in the title picture.
I’m also willing to bet that GSP telling Ariel he would’ve “considered” coming back if Khabib had called him out probably sparked that flame. He doesn’t come back unless it’s GSP. I’d be shocked if he did it for Chandler. They’ll advertise it as both fighter’s final fight with them coming out of retirement together for this epic match yada yada I can see it now.
Not surprised by Mousasi winning tonight. Still one of the very few big losses for the ufc. Amazing he performs at the level he does for his age and to become a champion again is impressive. Happy for him.
Definitely wish Mousasi stayed in the UFC given his success since leaving, but I wouldn’t call him a big loss for the company. He isn’t a big draw, but I definitely think he would be a fun fight or Whittaker or Izzy.
Pretty interesting fight despite not being all that eventful. Looked to me like Lima was scared to open up out of fear of getting taken down (he was trying to avoid exactly what happened at the very end of the fight). Mousasi, on the other hand, looked like he was possibly surprised by the power and strength of Lima. He probably thought he was going to handle him the same way he did Rory so he had to rethink it a bit.
Lmao Greg Hardy missed weight first try. What an absolute bum. I think this has got to be the first ever heavyweight miss in UFC history.
Yep. It is. Only other case that was close was Justin Willis. But he never made it to the scale due to complications. Strange thing is: Hardy looked DRAINED. He did not look good on the scale. Apparently cuts down from 285. Still unprecedented for a heavyweight. And we’ve had PLENTY of guys have to cut to make that weight.
