Not sure how many people in here watch a lot of grappling but a few months back someone tossed up a really great match from an old ADCC between Kron/Tonon. Worth a watch!
Haven't had time to check it all out yet, but has it been discussed what time of day this will take place vs. tape delay? I know when they did Silva vs. Maia there, it took place in the morning/early afternoon here in the US and then they still kept the PPV at 9 PM which was odd but understandable. But this will be without a crowd so I'm assuming making the people fight at a crazy time of day won't really have the same issue.
If they're not willing to pony up for Jones/Ngannou I don't see them breaking the bank for Masvida/McGregor.
Yeah this was a barn burner. Grappling matches aren't for everyone, I even struggle watching some even though I grapple almost every day, but this a good one for anyone.
Ah yeah that's true. It was like early afternoon or something (I was pretty drunk after a tailgate trying to watch that one haha) I just saw Ariel tweeted about it though. Looks like they will be usual times for the US like I thought. They won't have to convince a crowd to attend the main card at 6 AM local time, and most of the fighters won't be acclimated to that anyway. So it makes sense this time around.
This isn’t me taking up for Dana, I am all for the fighters getting more money, but isn’t this the absolute worse time for these guys to be starting this fight? No gate money and I’d imagine a huge hit on merchandise sales as well. Not to mention most people can’t afford a PPV right now. Add in the increased logistics required to make these events happen and the chances of a stubborn person like Dana to give in is very minimal.
Nate has no argument. He isn't anywhere near a title shot and everyone else is bitching about money or fake retiring. Burns has been on a roll and deserves the fight. Really Nate doesn't even deserve Masvidal since he was getting his ass stomped before doctors stepped in.
Super excited for 251. Three title fights that are all intriguing for different reasons, Paige fighting for the first time in quite awhile and Namajunas-Andrade is possibly a number one contender bout. If the rumors are true and Edgar/Munoz, Oezdimir/Prochazka and Abdurakhimov/Gane are on the prelims then that's easily the best card of the year.
I feel like some of these cards have the tendency to not live up to expectations whenever they look amazing on paper....always makes me hesitant whenever they look that stacked. On the other hand, you can have some cards like GSP vs. Bisping where it exceeds the already high expectations so who knows. I try to contain my excitement and not let it get out of hand. haha.
Yeah this weekends card is pretty lackluster but ill check it out at some point. With all of those fight island cards in July I'm assuming we will see some lackluster cards just to get fighters back in the cage.
I get what you're saying, but there's never a good time. Not like the UFC has ever taken kindly to being leveraged before. This is the most leverage these guys will ever have, might as well use it now.
The Cejudo Rogan podcast was good for the most part. I was just interested in learning more about the guy. But the way he talked about poverty was some really awful bootstraps shit. As someone who grew up very poor and also at times could only eat free school meals it was so hard to hear him say kids should be thankful for something like that and to talk about his childhood poverty as a blessing. Most of those kids don’t end up where he is and his outlook on that kind of plight is so skewed. Maybe this isn’t the thread for this point and it was only one small part of an otherwise interesting conversation but the Rogan podcast often plays to this kind of bullshit and I think it should be called out.
