What a weird night. Happy for The Joker but bummed for Jacare, obviously. Unless they need a last minute replacement, that could be it for his title hopes. As for Hardy...did his opponent even realize he was supposed to fight? He looked like a lost child out there. I wish I could say I'm surprised that the UFC is still pushing this guy so hard that they'll give him a co-main slot against a nobody even after he had a ridiculous DQ loss....but I'm not. As for Rory, sounded like a weird situation like usual. I get it if your motivation is lacking but yeah, I'm sure the company isn't too happy about him putting that out there during a damn tournament. Pretty tough to promote that going forward.
It wasn't just a nobody, it was someone smaller, 6 years older, and has 0 wins in the UFC. They were handing him someone easier because he had a tough time with Crowder. They're gonna run this cash pull as far as they can with blinders on and it makes me annoyed as hell for all of the guys who got there the right way, without infamy, and who take this sport seriously. He really had the balls to say he could be the "Michael Jordan of MMA" and do what he couldn't do in baseball. Cannot wait to see the UFC put him in with someone ranked. Let's get it over with now.
I bet on MMA for the first time last night. I normally wouldn't but I was very very confident in Hermansson and bet on him because the odds made too much sense. I'm a happy man.
He threw, if I’m not mistaken, 0 punches. I think he did one bull rush where it looked like he tried to remember how to punch somebody, but ultimately landed nothing and curled up against the fence.
Fitch won that fight by my estimation. Boring as hell, but I thought he won. I feel for Rory, dude's been fighting since 16. Can't blame him that after 14 years he doesn't have the fire anymore. Kind of a meh weekend for both organizations.
Fitch looked much better against Rory than I expected, but Rory also clearly wasn’t the fighter we’re used to in there. Fitch’s style heavily reminded me of Khabib’s style of fighting, though just didn’t seem to have the same power in his punches.
Bellator has some pro wrestling level story telling with Rory right now, I don't think it will Spike ratings but I know I'm gonna watch Rory fight again.
YESSSSSSS EDIT: brand new 30k capacity stadium. This will be awesome. Not sure that it has a roof though? Though I have just noticed that it’s the same day as our Super Bowl. Which is at night, and this will be in the day, but still.
Ah Rob just said on his podcast that the date isn't official and he's actually going to try to move it because of everything going on that weekend.
Dammit! It could be a MASSIVE weekend of sports. Saturday is the AFL grand final and then Sunday night is the NRL (rugby) grand final. Plus it’s a holiday weekend so everyone has Monday off. Throw the UFC on Monday since it’s during the day?
Yeah he said he's worried those events will eat into his ppv but that sounds like a great collab if UFC could work it out.
Oh man it would be awesome but if they want to go all out and go for 30,000+ then you can understand not doing it the same weekend as two other events. The AFL is in Melbourne and the NRL will be like 20min from the UFC if it ends up being at that venue.
Idk if this is confirmed, but I just read that Greg Hardy was paid $150,000 for his last fight. What in the actual fuck is this?
The UFC deserves a burn for that. Please let this asshole mess up so he winds up being wasted money for them. It would serve them right.
First event in UFC with no roof? Sketchy, amazing new stadium though, yeah odd if no one told them the NRL grand final is on down the road
I have already looked at this, UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi was open air. I think this would be the second one. Where are you based??
Irish but been living in east sydney Pretty chuffed with Team USA basketball visiting Qudos on way to Marvel Stadium news this morning too
