If a welterweight beats a reigning welterweight champ, and doesn’t hold the welterweight title, that’s far dumber imo. Seems odd, but not uncommon for tournaments where the champion is actively defending during it.
I think the concept of a Grand Prix/MMA Tournament makes the most sense for a new/vacant belt though definitely. Bellator is on it right now cause it’s different from the UFC and makes good fights happen (sometimes).
I guess I was just surprised that Rory wasn’t just automatically in the final with him already being the champ. It is pretty cool that he’s risking it with each fight. Not that these guys lack confidence haha
Yeah Rory is no chicken. He’ll fight anybody. I commended him for stepping up and facing Mousasi like he did. The guy is a warrior.
