Jesus. Back to back weekends a Lightweight has moved up to Welterweight and knocked a top striker out COLD. Not only that but it was the first time either guy had been knocked out and both had even taken Woodley’s best shots without going out.
Wow. Feel bad for Wonderboy. I hope he finds his rhythm again some day. Wouldn’t be surprised if he returned to Kickboxing after that though.
Eh he’s fine, still as solid as ever. He was easily winning that fight, but he just got a little too relaxed at the end of the round and got hit with a really unorthodoxed move. Honestly he seems to get hit the worst inside the pocket. He is like Machida where he is elusive on the outside but usually has his hands down when fighting at close range.
Either Dana just admitted the Flyweights are all being forced to move up to 135 or he has no idea that he's talking about 2 different divisions.
Wonderboy was just live on Facebook (from the hospital) and said he remembered thinking Pettis was slowing down and that his punches weren’t that fast. Then next thing he knew he was backstage lol said he has no recollection of anything that happened inside the cage afterwards, like he teleported to the back. He also asked (again) what exactly he got hit with. “Superman punch? Off the cage?! Dadgummit....” Gotta love the guy.
I watched this. Thompson is great. I do wish he'd of held a title in the UFC by now, but it is what it is. This is 80 professional fights he's done and never been knocked out once until now. I can't help but feel this fight is gonna have him reflecting big time before deciding what's next. Also funny that him and Weidman who are besties both got KO punched in their last fights, both of which they were likely winning on the cards.
It definitely makes them feel better and probably allowed for a little more power, but let’s not pretend that stylistic match ups haven’t played a huge part as well. There was all this hype about RDA and Cowboy looking phenomenal after moving up until they ran into stylistic disadvantages - then people acted as if they were too small.
