We were SO close from this card going smoothly. Usually if you make it to fight week, you're golden. God damn it, Jones. This was a total wild card. I think EVERYONE wanted to finally get closure on this whole situation to distinguish who the real champion is. Now, if Jones is on suspension, we have to keep going with this whole "paper champ" nonsense until god knows when.
My excitement is nearly all gone for 200 Oh well - time to amp up for 202 Dana gonna have to kiss the ring on Conor's fingers again cuz 202 gonna crush 200 numbers wise feels like karma for being so hasty to pull Conor off this card haha
UFC 200 is still a disgustingly loaded card. Yes this fight being scrapped REALLY sucks and for the casual MMA fan who watches for the big names only, this can be seen as a deathblow for them but I'm still stoked for this card regardless if Cormier gets a fight or not. I literally am curious about every single fight on this card and I can say that I've NEVER felt that before.
Yeah seriously like the card will still be incredible. Like even the fight pass prelims would be main events on some b shows
Was hunt v lesner 5rounds before? Surely it can't be 5 on short notice. Especially for those big units
Jon Jones once again proving that he's the dumbest man alive. Just ban him and get it over with already. The dude deserves nothing
Just some mildly interesting points... - With Jones gone, Lesnar is the only one to fight on UFC 100 and UFC 200 - AND he'll have headlined both. - Jones should be the only person to ever get stripped of an interim belt (hahaha)
I went to turn on the live stream of the Jon Jones press conference and all I saw was Jones crying and trying to compose himself to talk. I just couldn't bring myself to watch it. I don't relish watching someone having to speak to the media the morning after he made one of the biggest mistakes of his life. More than anything this whole thing just makes me really sad. And for DC, the money he is losing out on is probably huge. Such a blow for him. What a crappy situation.
So if an MMA fighter's opponent is injured, suspended, or doesn't show up to the match they don't get paid? That hardly seems fair.
They get paid, but not anywhere near what they WOULD have been paid. The base salary for fighters is just a small part of what they get if they actually compete (and win) at the event. The bonuses are huge, and most headling fighters can negotiate a portion of the PPV revenue. That stuff is out the window for DC.
DC even referenced it as his press conference. He mentioned how huge of a blow this was going to be financially for his family. It is just so shitty that this test was apparently conducted on June 16, but it took until yesterday for the results to get announced? That needs to be fixed fast. At least finding out towards the end of June would have given the UFC a chance to find a replacement.
Feel like regardless of whether or not Jones is guilty of "cheating", USADA still has some work to do. All of this mess with all of these tainted samples like with Yoel Romero and Frank Mir where it just seems to be pretty obscure what happened and what they are being punished for is one thing, but this instance is even bad for DC. Because the results took right up until two days beforehand, DC doesn't have much of an option to get a replacement fight booked and hurts him financially. It's also crazy how vague their results are in some cases (sample A being positive, sample B being negative) and the athletes are still punished, but then in others where guys like Machida and Cro Cop admit to using a banned substance, no results ever show it. I think what they're doing overall is positive, but it just seems like a lot of things still need to be tightened up.
Dana White was just on with Colin Cowturd and he said that Cormier WILL fight on Saturday. They should be naming his opponent sometime today. 90% confident in saying that I think it's going to be Gegard which ya know....yay for helping soften the blow for the biggest card in UFC history but Gegard just recently got slept by Uriah Hall so meh. Cormier would likely tear Gegard apart but if that is what has to happen for Cormier to get paid then good. Then again, Bisping stood no chance against Rockhold and here we are.
That's great news. I would be happy with that as I am a huge Mousasi fan (not that I like his chances ha). I think if not Gegard, they'll maybe go with Michael Bisping. He already offered to step up and is a major draw. Plus, he just won his belt off of two weeks notice...so hell, why not? I'm stoked regardless of what they do.
Eh, bummer. Not saying that I think he's lying, but I take comments from Dana like that with a grain of salt. haha. Bisping even asked for the fight, but Dana "doesn't even have to ask"? Sounds like BS, even though I'm sure they're picking someone else to get the fight.
