I'm pretty pissed. My damn DVR stopped during the middle of round 3. Ugh. Cowboy looked strong. The 170 division has some intriguing match ups once this Lawler - Woodley fight is over.
Another report is out that Zuffa has accepted a 4.2 billion dollar bid for UFC. Dana White would stay on in his current role. Ownership group allegedly consists of WME-IMG (the Ari Emmanuel fronted group), The Kraft Group, and several Chinese investors.
WWE is a promotional machine, and their live shows are HUGE, so this could be a good thing for the UFC if that is actually the case. I used to be a huge WWF fan during the Attitude Era, but I fell off when it became the WWE.
As someone has already clarified, the WWE are not buying the UFC. WME-IMG, however, are buying the UFC, according to reports. WME-IMG is a combination of the biggest Hollywood and Sports agents.
UFC Unfiltered is on iTunes now, listening to the first episode. If anyone doesn't know, it's Matt Serra and Jim Norton talking shit that is UFC related. Dana White is the guest today.
Wow. Dana White's thoughts on journalism are...interesting. White: Helwani 'stole from fans', threw a 'pity party' He is mad because Ariel didn't TELL HIM before he broke the news? He doesn't work for you, man! Come on!
What is the difference between "leaking" and "breaking" information? Leaking I feel has been a term coined around the "wikileaks", I'm sure it was popular then, but I mean come on. "Leaking" could refer to releasing news that WASN'T PLANNED ON BEING RELEASED, where as "breaking" would refer to releasing the information which was planned on being released, prior to the source actually releasing it. I think that's the point of journalism, what was he supposed to do? Dana and Joe Rogan both say that Ariel was asked, or told, to please not release the information prior to the promo at UFC 199. I guess he probably should have just been a team player and went along with it, but you can't really blame him for breaking the story before any other MMA site.
Typically, leaking would be if someone within the company was given confidential information and gave it away whether on purpose or accidentally when they were 100% not supposed to. They seem to think that Ariel has planted a mole within the UFC/Fox and is obtaining this information through shady means. He claims he just reaches out to (multiple) credible sources and some reach out to him, then he releases it. If it is ever specifically said to him, "Hey, don't release this information" then he won't. That's why people got so upset. He has never been purposefully "leaking" information; he's just not sitting on news when it comes to him.
So, what he did wasn't leaking what so ever because the UFC was planning on releasing it anyway. The UFC is just pissed because Ariel "stole their thunder".
Pretty much. They just call it "leaking" to make it seem like he did something more unethical than he really did.
Yup, but I also think it's Dana showing his ignorance. He talked about this on the new UFC Uncensored or whatever it's called podcast with Jim Norton and Matt Serra. He went on to say something along the lines of how it's not journalism if you hear of a story and then just go release it without notifying the source....that's kind of exactly what a journalist does, haha.
It would be different if this were some new journalist that was "spoiling" their news announcements, but like Ariel says, he has virtually NEVER misreported something or jumped the gun. Wherever he is getting his news from (for the last decade or so) is so solid that he is definitely not rushing it out to try to beat them. It's obviously always 100% confirmed if he makes a post about it. And like I said before, he has always complied if they've reached out to him and asked him not to say something, but he can't just let the UFC report every single thing first or else he wouldn't even have a job.
Twitter reacts to death of UFC veteran Ryan Jimmo Not good. Saw some dodgy websites. Making it look very click baity, tricking that it could've been in ring
Think Lewis takes it from Nelson. I'm leaning RDA's way, but Alvarez winning wouldn't really surprise me.
I'm thinking that RDA is a bad stylistic match up for Eddie because he won't be able to grind him like he did to Pettis, but man, are those odds appealing........
Anyone know when 202 pre-sales go up for fight club members? The site still says TBD but I just find it weird they already had the pre-sales for 203.
