    I'm Back.

So he got banned for breaking a story ahead of the official announcement? What's the crime in that?

Unless he was employed by the UFC and LEAKED a major announcement before the company could do it, what's the issue? As far as I know he worked independently of the UFC and shared information that he knew of before the announcement.

He was just doing his job. Source reached out to HIM and he reported what he knew. But Dana White is a petty and vindictive man.

And in all likelihood, it was the UFC that got Ariel fired from Fox Sports before he got the gig at MMA Fighting. It is jut so damn small. I can't even fathom it.

But at least this hasn't been swept under the rug and the mainstream press has reported on it. Not sure it will do any good, in the end, but at least it is out there.

The amount of stories that people have read and therefor promoted UFC that Ariel has broken the company should be indebted to him

That episode of the MMA Hour today was tough to watch. You can tell Ariel has been the scapegoat for those people for so long when they feel things didn't go well. He was on the verge of tears because apparently the UFC brass have told him his career is over and that they will do everything in their power to make sure it stays that way.

He also stated that he was basically their lapdog in terms of what he covered. He was getting paid BY THE UFC when he was employed by Fox. The journalists involved in MMA coverage seriously need to do what they do best and get Helwani his credentials back.

It's things like this that make people not take MMA seriously as a sport. Fucking hell, even pro-wrestling doesn't have this strong a grip on how they are portrayed in the media.

Damn, according to Twitter, Kimbo Slice is in bad shape in the hospital. Tons of people saying he has already passed away but I haven't seen a completely credible source yet.

  7. Apparently his training partner confirmed it on FB

Strewth. Wonder what was wrong with the old dog.

Lots of people saying his heart is failing but I've read so many things I can't keep them straight. Though considering his age and the fact that he got popped after his last performance (where his cardio was obviously bad), it doesn't surprise me, sadly.

Unfortunately a lot of fighters are now saying "RIP Kimbo Slice". Man, what a bummer.

The UFC statement on the issue is still rather ridiculous.

"However, in our opinion, we believe the recurring tactics used by its lead reporter extended beyond the purpose of journalism. We feel confident our position has now been adequately communicated to the SB Nation editorial team."

What does that even mean, "extended beyond the purpose of journalism?"

UFC just can't get out of its own way.

Sounds like the UFC brass doesn't like spoilers.

damn poor kimbo. his backyard fight vids on youtube were the shit!

Sad indeed. He definitely got a lot of flack for his lack of ground skills and everyone who is only a casual fan of MMA just knows him for being a backyard brawler, but everyone in the actual MMA community loved him and knew him as a good, humble guy. He is much more intelligent than you would think a "backyard brawler" would be. He literally fought his way out of being poor and eventually made it to the biggest stage in the world. Whether or not people want to give him credit for his skills, that's a hell of an accomplishment in itself.

I know no one wants to say it right now, but I can't believe the hit that Bellator has taken. They wanted to make one huge "freak show" fight with Kimbo and Dada 5000, and look what happened.... Not only was the fight highly criticized, but Dada almost died IN the cage and spent however long in the hospital afterwards. Quite literally the LAST thing anyone wanted after that was for Kimbo Slice to pass away.

Not to mention that Kimbo got popped for taking a banned substance, which caused that fight to be changed to a NC. And that Bellator was content to look the other way when it came to that failed drug test and schedule him another fight.

Now with Kimbo's death, I would like Bellator to come under a lot more scrutiny.

For sure. That steroid/health screening conversation regarding Bellator is just something that everyone knows is coming but doesn't want to say yet. Such a bummer.

So it looks like Chad Mendes got popped by the USADA for an out of competition test.

    Yikes

That's a shame. Why do they do it? I just don't get it. Is it really worth the risk of having your rep tarnished? My biggest disappointment to this day for failed testing is Silva. Really made me shake my head. Is it just a lack of confidence?

I'm not speaking based on any factual evidence, but I wouldn't doubt it if Silva's case was solely based on his injury. Who knows.

I am just not sure why people even fuck with it. Like you said, their rep is always damaged even when it's a supplement, but in the case of actual steroids...we just lost two huge names in the sport to heart failure. Both in their early 40s. There are very obviously serious health risks, so I don't get why they bother.

    Kimbo and ???

How about that dreadlocked MMA fighter who blew his head off literally playing Russian roulette over the weekend

  23. Mrk_Brdshw

    Dusted Groove

Kimbo and Kevin Randleman. The Monster had a handful of health problems but you have to think the steroid use had a little to do with his heart failure.

But yeah the Russian Roulette thing is crazy. I didn't know people really did that.

So apparently the UFC sale is very close to being done but Dana will stay on board no matter who buys.
