Right, I think the division is so empty right now that if it weren't for Jones, he would have a very possible chance of snatching that title. There are a bunch of guys (Rumble, Davis, Bader) who are probably too complete of fighters for him but they aren't in the UFC anymore. DC essentially left the division, and Gus and Jones hardly ever fight for various reasons (I'll be surprised if their fight actually happens). I think if their fight goes as planned, the winner of that is going to be a little too much for Smith to handle, but I guess we'll see.
Not trying to speculate....but when this popped up on my Twitter feed, it was because it was retweeted by Ben Askren...
Khabib/Askren at 165 is my guess. I don’t think they’d bring Ben in just to have him fight someone random in the top 10. Also his buddy is the 170lb champ right now.
I think they’ll dissolve flyweight and bring in a 165 division. Askren has been very adamant in interviews and stuff that he would never fight Woodley. I think they’d move 170 up to 175. That helps a little bit for those guys who cut an insane amount of weight. 165 might thin out 155/170 but those are some of the most stacked divisions in the world.
Yeah, that's the one instance where I think it's okay to insert a division. So many of the 155 guys are draining themselves trying to cut down to that but are too short/small to really compete with the guys at Welterweight who cut down from 200+ lbs. 170 has sort of stalled out at the top with Woodley going on his title run, but it still has tons of great fighters and you might even get some Middleweights who feel more comfortable cutting down to 175 instead of 170. And of course, 155 always has the most talent out of the whole roster so they can spare some guys.
Lot of stuff points to that Khabib news being a fight with GSP GSP likes a lot of time to prepare and Khabib is definitely gonna get suspended DC said do it 165 no belt
Askren vs Khabib actually interests me more. GSP could be retired after the Bisping fight for good and i'd accept it cause he's my goat in MMA. He doesn't need to fight anymore to prove it. Plus with Askren and Khabib, we've got somebody taking their first professional loss so you can expect them both to give their all with 0 health issues at the moment.
I think I'm in the same boat although I do think GSP is a bad match up Khabib if such thing exists. I don't think Askren gets out wrestled by Khabib by any means but there's at least some questions on how that one would go since Askren's striking isn't really all that great. GSP would pick Khabib apart on the feet while stuffing his takedowns.
I wouldn’t complain or doubt GSP if he chose to fight Khabib. But as for seeing Askren start his UFC career against another undefeated Champ would be awesome.
If he pulls off that deal, he might as well vacate because he ain’t making 265 for the rest of his life.
Stephan Bonnar alleged DUI arrest body cam footage released Damn that’s hard to watch. Didn’t realize he was basically past out behind the wheel.
