Stipe most deserves the shot first. Sadly it's been made pretty clear Dana and the UFC do not give a fuck about having Stipe as the Heavyweight champ despite his amazing record.
Just finished the JRE episode with Conor’s head Coach and the dude who helps him cut weight. That’s a good dude. He gave Khabib all the praise in the world. He said Conor wants the rematch and from a business standpoint he thinks that it will get done. Said he doesn’t think Khabib deserves some lengthy suspension that puts his career at risk but the dudes who jumped in the ring need to never be allowed in there again. Joe mentioned a “tuneup” fight for Conor against someone like Pettis and Kavanaugh said it just doesn’t interest Conor. Said Conor fighting next March (the day before St. Paddy’s day) makes sense or in the summer. Doesn’t seem like there’s interest there for anyone besides Khabib or a trilogy with Diaz.
There’s also a Netflix special coming out around the Conor/Floyd fight. Will show off all the sparring Conor did and everything leading up to the fight.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department releases statement on UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor brawl Wouldnt expect anything bad to happen. Khabib is gonna get a fine and that’s probably it Tony is about to get fucked Edit: https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2018...t-flee-ufc-229-during-crowd-melee/1568799002/ Dana: HE RAN OUT OF THE BUILDING. HE WAS MORTIFIED
In a perfect world, we get Khabib vs. Tony, and Conor fights the winner of Dustin vs. Nate. Both rematches would be very interesting and would set up the next title shot no problem as all three are deserving. There are two other wild cards here: 1) they let Conor jump ship and get a shot at Woodley somehow (not that he's deserving but it would NOT surprise me) or 2) GSP decides to come in and take a lightweight title fight like he's been discussing recently. GSP vs. Conor at Welterweight or Lightweight would also be huge. I think GSP beats Conor and Khabib both.
UFC is probably hoping Nate wins. So then they can have Conor v Nate and Tony v Khabib. Winner of each fight after.
Conor really needs a win now imo he shouldn’t even be entertaining the notion of Woodley or GSP but either would be a fight I’d love to see
Dave Meltzer (MMA Fighting) tweeted he heard the same thing in response to Dana saying the PPV did way more than 2mil buys
I agree but Conor’s brand is a strange one so I’m not really sure where to go with him. The only hiccup he’s had was against Diaz on short notice which he bounced back from... This is kind of the only time in his UFC career where he doesn’t have an obvious next move because he got thoroughly dismantled by a guy in his division. They may even feel like it cheapens him to finally take a “tune up” fight, especially because he doesn’t have another belt to fall back on anymore.
Just finished listening to Rogans pod, what really was interesting was how much George Lockhart was downplaying what Khabib did, he couldn't of made it more clear he didn't think it was a big deal. I suppose he could just be placating to Conor though because Conor obviously wants the rematch and nothing else right now.
Derrick Lewis just said he broke his finger. No way there’s any truth to that beyond maybe a text saying “hey this would be cool”
That guy came off like a huge dick tbh. He spent a good 40 minutes talking about how he’s a god at getting fighters to make weight
Dave should have a pretty accurate figure for the next newsletter. He’s literally the only trustworthy person for numbers like that
Ahh yes that was Kavanagh, i fast forwarded through him, he was very annoying and problematic to listen to. He's the weight cutting coach, Conor's trainer George Lockhart was the second guy on for the second hour, I liked him.
yeah I just seen that. Okamoto is usually right behind Ariel in terms of news so idk where this came from. DC would gas him out quick tho
If that’s true, props to DC for taking that risky fight instead of sitting out when he’s already guaranteed a huge payday with Brock (I use “guarantee” lightly here, you know how it goes). I figured he would take a fight at LHW - that way if he somehow loses, he still has that HW belt to get him that money fight before retiring.
Meltzer on his radio show last night said, over 2 million but under 3 million. He is speculating between 2 and 2.5 million. This would but it just below Mayweather/De La Hoya. Very impressive .
