I really don't want that. I feel Nate would be SO much bigger than Dustin come fight night. Like, he will be even at 55 but if he doesn't have to cut that extra 10 pounds then that'll benefit him more than Dustin.
They definitely need a 165 division but I really don’t want a 165 if they’re not moving welterweight to 175. Making that big of a change at the last minute just because they’re out of options isn’t fair at all. Especially because this train wreck has been brewing all year. If they’re going to do a non-title main event then bring in Bones/Gus or GSP. As much as I’d like to see Poirier/Diaz go 5 rounds I just don’t think it’s PPV main event worthy.
I like that. Really want to see Condit get a win because his losing streak genuinely saddens me. The guy went from arguably beating Lawler in a lot of people’s eyes to dropping a few fights in a row to people he would have beaten at a different point in his career. Edit: what if they do GSP vs. Diaz? Is that even a possibility?
Diaz has said he won’t fight GSP until they fess up to drugging his brother before their fight...Yeah, I don’t know.
haha I actually meant GSP vs. Nick. There was rumblings of Nick vs. Condit but that sort of died off, but I'll be honest: I have not kept up with Nick's situation in the last few years to know when/if he's eligible to fight again... I honestly don't know if there's anyone available at the moment outside of GSP and Jones that could still be a big enough draw at the last second like that to make it worth it for MSG. The fact that they're apparently having issues locking something down according to Ariel makes me think that A) the UFC has nothing and are scrambling to whip ANYTHING noteworthy together or B) they're still negotiating with GSP because he was notoriously hard to pin down with an offer last time (and rightfully so) Not that I think the UFC had any better options at the moment, but these scenarios are what people were afraid of when the UFC got crazy trying to book super fights and trying to make multiple-division champions. They're in serious need of a title fight but since Cormier's out, that takes away not one but TWO potential title fights, and then other division champs are fighting each other which eliminates even more options (Nunes/Cyborg and Dillashaw/Cejudo). I'm betting it's either Ronda Rousey or they're making a whole new division. ha.
I would not even be remotely shocked if it's Diaz/Poirier for the interim lw title (which makes absolutely zero fucking sense)
The Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports calls it Super Lightweight Though knowing Diaz he’ll just call it gangsterweight
ugh if they give it a gaudy name like that they might as well make a fake ass wwf looking belt to go with it.
Seems weird that the UFC are so against the idea since after all they wanted Conor and Nate to both win. Conor would be going for a third belt.
