Big clashing fights. Obviously gonna watch UFC 225 but intrigued by Terrance Crawford and Jeff Horn juuust before the UFC PPV starts
Robert Whittaker (c) vs. Yoel Romero Rafael dos Anjos vs. Colby Covington Holly Holm vs. Megan Anderson Andrei Arlovski vs. Tai Tuivasa CM Punk vs. Mike Jackson Alistair Overeem vs. Curtis Blaydes Cláudia Gadelha vs. Carla Esparza Of the fights I'm really caring about, assuming all hold until Saturday.
Anthony Bourdain passed away Not directly related but he narrated some UFC stuff and was a huge fan/BJJ blue belt
Bourdain stopped in for a day at my gym before I was a member, was always hoping he'd come back one day so I could roll with him. If you haven't read about his experiences, I highly recommend it. SWEEP THE LEG, JOHNNY! – Parts Unknown – Medium
Again. AGAIN. Yo Dana, what made you think that he'd be better this time around? He's 40. Your body isn't shaking that water anymore.
Wasn’t Rob pretty adamant before about not fighting him if he couldn’t make the weight? It’s only a pound and I’m sure he’ll lose it but still
I wouldn't bet that he loses it. If he doesn't, Whittaker shouldn't take the fight again. What's the point?
But if he misses weight, they can't fight anyway. To my knowledge, no titleholder has taken a nontitle fight against the number one contender in their own division. If they lose, they're basically lame duck champion.
The only close example I can think of that had that scenario is Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen for the WEC Middleweight belt, but that was because the champ missed weight. Filho missed weight and lost, but Chael still didn't win the belt. It didn't matter anyway though since it was the final WEC MW title fight. This would be a lot worse in the case that Romero doesn't make weight but beats Whittaker. That puts the MW division in a very weird spot since the top guy would have hypothetically won the interim championship and undisputed champion but missed weight both times.
They have to call the fight now. No other middleweights on the card either. Poor planning on UFC's part.
If they scrap this fight I’ll be so fucking pissed. This just solidified that I should never go to a UFC event. This garbage happens every fucking time. Not worth the money.
