But the backlash and criticism McGregor faced after that loss is detrimental to their legacy, something it seems every UFC fighter wants to have. Confidence and actual physical ability are separated by a thin line in this sport, which is a gift and a curse. I think Jones is comfortable being on top in the division he conquered until someone comes in and takes it from him or he retires.
True, but he's said he would eventually go to heavyweight. I think he needs to beat DC again, rematch with Gus since it never happened and then finally face Rumble. Other than those fights, there isn't anything I want to see from him at LHW...unless someone comes out of nowhere and poses a real threat. Shit I would have loved to see Silva fight Jones at LHW before he went out and faced Weidman those couple of times.
I don't know that Silva would have ever beaten Jones after Jones became champion. He is a terrible match up for him (and anyone else, I guess). Add in the size disadvantage, and it's even worse. I always thought GSP vs. Silva would have been way more competitive. Not sure the size difference would have nullified Georges wrestling or what, but if not, he would have taken him down every round.
Yea Silva is reaching the "washed up" status, I think Weidman and Father Time wrecked him. He did look decent enough against Bisping, though.
JJ said that if all goes well, he'd like to fight Rumble at UFC205 in MSG. I'd love to see that fight. Then again, I am sure they are eyeing some other big fights for 205. If Edgar beats Aldo, I am sure he'd want Connor in NY. And Tate wants Rhonda as well. I know they wanted UFC 200 to be their biggest event, but 205 could shape up to be just as big, if not bigger, if UFC wanted it to be.
Valerie Letourneau vs. Joanne Calderwood in Ottawa at 125 pounds. UFC made a point of outright saying this isn't the opening of a new division and no official rankings will be released, but you've got to assume if they're making this fight they're at least testing the waters here on women's flyweight. I'd like to see it materialize.
Women's divisions are so thin as is. Lighter weight classes in the men's divisions with dominant champions such as DJ are having trouble drawing numbers. Women will be even worse because there isn't a feel good Olympic story such as Cejudo at the weight. Hell, even 135 has about 3 ladies I could see truly fighting continuously for the title.
Certainly not implying they're primed to be major draws, but there are a number of higher level women out there who aren't quite fit for 115 or 135 that deserve an adequate weight to compete at.
We need a 145 before we need a 125 for women IMO. Carano was marketable at the weight (albeit mainly for looks) but you have Cyborg who can comfortably fight there as well as Invicta's ladies. Even Holm has gone up there before.
No qualms with 145. Aside from something dumb like super heavyweight, I'm open to as many divisions as possible. Always been of the opinion the more title fights, the better.
Rumble vs Glover just announced for UFC on FOX 20. Hopefully both Jones and Johnson take care of business and we could finally see them fight
^ Holm vs. Shevchenko in the works for that card as well, and Barboza vs. Melendez already pegged. Event is shaping up very nicely.
I actually live in Chicago. I am strongly debating going to those fights. Anyone here been to a UFC event? My biggest concern is that the views will end up sucking and it will be more enjoyable just watching the fights at home.
I reckon nothing will beat tv for actually watching it. But those middle tier spots look far more better for visibility than floor seats past the first few rows. I would go at least just once for the experience
Where is it? United? I've been to two events at the Air Canada Center and had a blast at both, the second being that epic Jones-Gustafsson fight. The atmosphere was unlike any other sporting event I've been to. Definitely a unique experience. I would recommend going. We sat in the first couple of rows in the upper bowl in the arena and really liked being able to look down on the cage like that and see everything that was happening. I'd recommend that. Usually not too expensive.
Awesome! Thanks! Yeah, it is at the United Center. Tickets go on sale May 20th. If they are priced similar to the Dillashaw fight at the UC, I will probably go to experience it at least once.
That's really the best thing to do. Go once, and if you aren't crazy about it (some people I know haven't been), at least you can say you went and hopefully saw a memorable fight live. If you do, which I expect you probably will, you'll be hooked and counting down the days until the next event in your area haha
It looks like they have Chicago pegged as a UFC on FOX destination. Last fights in Chicago were in July for Dillishaw v. Barao II, also on FOX.
