I'm so happy I know someone who has an opera box for a Thalia Hall show because I'll join them and get away from the giants.
MJ Lenderman is equal to or possibly even has eclipsed Wednesday in popularity which is insane. I can’t remember a time where a member of a band has eclipsed the band they are in (or matched that popularity) since like…Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child or Gwen Stefani and No Doubt (I’m sure there are others but those are the ones that come to mind) Regardless, I am here for it. Gonna throw this on in a few minutes!
He's been a solo guy longer than he's been in Wednesday though, right? Like I knew about the MJ Lenderman project before I knew the was also in Wednesday
This is very good, excited to spend more time with it. Forgot "Rudolph" was on it lmao. I held off on "Wristwatch" and man, what a song
Two listens, didn't play the singles all the much, Joker Lips, Wristwatch, She's Leaving You are probably my favorites right now, but love all of it
Really like this on a first listen. The Molina influence is strong on this one but I suppose it always has been for him.
Love the brevity, I've already listened twice since this morning. I know it's all singles but "Joker Lips" through "She's Leaving You" is just an insane run of songs lol
Correct, much longer. There was a split EP between MJ and Wednesday before he was in the band where I think he also featured on some tracks. But he didn’t officially join until 2020 or 2021 and had been putting out solo stuff since like 2017 or 2018 I think at least
I understand why everyone talks about Molina/Zevon/Neil when it comes to this guy, but a lot of this record sound to me like the work of a guy who has (like me) spent an unreasonable amount of time with the early DBT records. It's like if Patterson had the capacity to edit himself haha. Of course Patterson would probably list Zevon and Neil as his two biggest influences, but if you want an analogue for MJ that's the one in my book.
I heard She’s Leaving You like twice months ago when it came out and did everything in my power to not listen to it more. I’m so glad I did that. It’s such a powerful centerpiece here.
wristwatch is my early favorite. can't get enough of the chorus. rip torn - you don't know the shape I'm in is gonna take a while to unpack
