Finally saw him live tonight doing an acoustic set opening for Mavis Staples. It was just him on guitar and Colin on dobro. Was very similar vibe to his tiny desk performance. He did some cool covers of songs by Vic Chesnutt, This Is Lorelia, Warren Zevon, and Sparklehorse. He did a handful of tunes from Manning Fireworks, Catholic Priest, and one new song. He also came back out and performed Beautiful Stranger with Mavis. Mavis killed it as well. Also, got to see Friendship do an instore performance about an hour or so before the MJ show. Overall it was a good night.
Hudson Freeman - is a Folk Artist (May 29, 2025) • forum.chorus.fm more Hovvdy than MJ, but some folks will probably fuck with this.
New LP by OVVEN produced by Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday, Indigo De Souza). It's fuzzy alt-country slacker rock with a few dips into acoustic-y slow burns. Lyrics dwell on the common plight of the modern human like cancelled TV shows, moved statues, and needing things to do with your hands after all the dishes are washed.
I think that album was already posted about in here and it’s just too much of a copy of MJ and other similar bands for me.
Must of missed it. There's some charm to it for me but agree that some tracks are auto-skip for being too carbon copy.
