They have just announced a reunion show in LA. Man I wish I could go to this show. Unfortunately this looks like a one off reunion
Saw Maura posting about this in a few places. I'm actually surprised because even though the band's ending wasn't one where everyone hated each other (even though Ryan made some idiotic comments), but ever since it just seems like Maura has been happier and pursuing other interests, like music projects but also hobbies. I felt like she was just over the fact she ever played in this band but I guess not. Let's see how it goes.
I don't think it was ever explicitly said why (though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone) but Ryan said some stupid misogynistic crap while on stage and then issued some apology afterward. But it was like right around that time, maybe within a week or two, they announced a break. So I'd assume that had something to do with it. But someone else might remember the story better than myself.
Yeah Mixtapes will always hold a special place in my heart, and Maura is still one of the absolute best people I've met in this scene... But Ryan being a weirdo conspiracy theory creep bums me out so hard. Maybe he's changed since then, who knows. The Sandy Hook lyric made me not want to continue listening to him though, and I haven't kept up since Mixtapes ended
This band had such a special place in my heart that Ryan ruined by being just awful both online and in person, including weirdly hitting on my ex girlfriend. No bueno but I'm glad they're back even for one show
Those who cause strong emotions in us always remain important and penetrate deeply into the soul. And their songs are really cool
Just bumping this to say Mt. Hope is still a classic - as is all of Even On The Worst Nights honestly. Its a shame that Ryan is such a tremendous dumb dumb though,(I wasn't aware of the Sandy Hook comments jfc)
Agreed! Mixtapes have some great songs and their live shows where always fun...well every time I seen them at Fest. Shame it ended the way it did.
Maura Weaver (Mixtapes) announces debut solo LP, shares "Crush On You, Pt. II" https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/maura-weaver-i-was-due-for-a-heartbreak-september-15-2023.64892/
Ryan did reply in the Wonder Years thread about this: It would be cool to hear a Mixtapes type of album from him in the future because I adored their run of albums. I'm just really psyched to hear this Maura record!
