It’s a laying down next to your toddler’s crib waiting for them to fall asleep while you also end up falling asleep record. I hear that’s what it is.

Genuinely don’t understand the lukewarm response to laurel hell (…or the adoration for be cowboy)

Second full listen. This is some masterful shit. For sure not as immediately punchy as BTC/LH with all the disco drums and synths mostly gone but she’s flexing hardcore with every choice and it all works so naturally and beautifully.

It’s excellent. Gets better with each listen although listening to it through headphones last night was magic.

I’m Your Man is top tier Mitski.

It’s really good and very beautiful id say it’s a lot more cohesive than LH but just missing the bops

I'm this person. TBH I fell in love with Be The Cowboy through hearing songs on tiktok and then listening to the whole album on repeat, and haven't really been grabbed by any other album. BTC is so hooky.

I really couldn’t even explain why I like this with the same immediacy as when I first heard puberty 2 I just know it’s good

Only got really into Mitski recently, having liked a handful of songs here and there previously. Be the Cowboy and Laurel Hell I enjoyed, but Makeout Creek and Puberty 2 were head and shoulders above them for me.

The new one is incredible though. Definitely in my top three with those two. Laurel Hell felt like listening to Mitski trying on a certain style that worked better in some places than others, whereas The Land is Inhospitable feels like slipping into a beautiful and cohesive dream-like vibe for 30 mins.

Only listened once but my first impressions are very positive, and I’m honestly a little bit blown away

First impression is super positive. I’m someone who enjoys Laurel Hell, but this is immediately better and on par with her best work.

I was a little bit worried this wouldn’t do it for me, but it works so much better as an album than standalone singles for me. This is gorgeous. I love the lyrics and that it's stripped back. Definitely a cool style for her to try out. Will be listening a lot

this is the first Mitski album I've ever liked front to back! something to do with the palpable humidity in the recordings.

i actually enjoyed this quite a lot too

  25. Bounced off this one hard, I've always enjoyed the bombast on her records and the more subdued sound is just not coming together for me. I'll come back later with a different set of expectations and see if that makes a difference.
