  4. Yeah it's cool that they're making album releases into these social, communal events, but total darkness? Maybe I'm overthinking it but I don't think that's for me. Like, if it's a listening party at a record store with the lights on I can see (lol) that being a fun time.

It is the fighting for a ticket, fighting for a parking spot, and having to be in a small space with strangers for me. The darkness I welcome.

My, uh, friend kind of agrees with the less sensational version of that reviewer’s sentiment about the last record so my, uh, friend finds the reviewer’s praise for the new album very exciting.

There's some pretty heavy praise being doled out in some of the reviews, that's for sure. I only listened to the first single, so I'm going in mostly cold on Friday.

I feel like Be the Cowboy is the welcome party and you can choose your own adventure from there. If you want something a tad more messy/indie rock, you can start with Bury Me at Makeout Creek, IMO.

I’d probably say puberty 2. Make out creek is prob the most emo adjacent, cowboy the big indie monster. Can’t go wrong with any of those 3, however.

seeing her live in the make out creek era opening for screaming females (!) one of the smarter live decisions I've made. unreal intensity. didn't love the last album but love that she is huge now

Puberty 2 and then Be the Cowboy. That’ll probably give you the best overall idea, even if Bury Me at Makeout Creek is better than Be the Cowboy.

Her first two records are kind of like her Boxcar Bertha and Who’s That Knocking at My Door. I’ve only skimmed them, I think they’re probably more worth your time than most people think though, her sound doesn’t really come together until Bury Me at Makeout Creek and that’s kind of the “beginning”, not even sure how Mitski feels about those first two.

I’m not a big fan of Laurel Hell at all, though there’s still like 3 or 4 songs that are worth your time. Working For the Knife is great. The Only Heartbreaker, Heat Lightning and That’s Our Lamp all good.

Be the Cowboy is her best imo, with Bury Me second. Puberty 2 is great and Laurel Hell is just okay.

Be the Cowboy seems like the obvious entry point to me but the run of Bury Me - Puberty 2 - Be the Cowboy is pretty untouchable.

Laurel Hell is a good album but doesn’t compete with the previous. Her first two each have a few songs I like but overall I don’t care for them.
