What is the Mitski fan consensus on the two post-Be the Cowboy/retirement releases? As a non-hardcore fan it seems like she veered left and went down a different trajectory after Puberty 2/Cowboy set her up for a huge crossover album.

I respect it. Increasingly weird and idiosyncratic songwriter. Laurel Hell has some great tracks, but the newest one has some of her best work ever. ‘I’m Your Man’ and ‘Bug Like an Angel’ are both perfect. My wife is a public school teacher 4th-8th grade and she said a lot of her students love Mitski.

    It's going to be ok.

My friend bought me that huge biography written about her. Only getting into her now but I. Am. Obsessed! :heart:3333

  10. Thirded, having a "duh" moment because as trans woman with Vietnamese roots... I didn't know Patti was Vietnamese! One more reason to stan her

  12. Yup, from my mom's side! Didn't really grow up immersed in the culture due to the assimilation my grandma went through after starting her life over in France. I've been trying to reconnect with these roots as of late.

I didn't find much mainstream representation in my country so far. Looks like there are more recognizable Vietnamese celebs in the US then?

  13. Yeah we got a handful of actors (Kelly Marie Tran, Hong Chau), comics (Patti Harrison, Robin Tran [also trans!]), and musical artists (Thao Nguyen, Hana Vu). Some prominent writers as well (Ocean Vuong, Viet Thanh Nguyen).

Ironically, probably the most recognizable brand of Vietnamese-language media produced here is called Paris by Night haha. It's a long-running series of recorded live performances, mostly singing and dancing but with some skits interspersed as well. Very big in my parents' generation, tho I personally don't really pay attention to it
