A couple listens in and I like it a lot, though not as much as the last one. The second verse of I'll Change For You is one of my favourite things shes done.

 

I love this album so much now.

 

Is the track “Where’s my phone” deliberately censored, or is it my Apple Music being weird?

There’s an irritating bleep where she (presumably) says “fuck” in it, but then other songs on the record have swearing with no issue, so not sure if it was by design!

 

Might be a stylistic choice

 

I think it's intentional. My vinyl copy has it, too.

The more I hear "I'll Change For You" the more I realize it's actually one of her more special songs

 

Incredible track

 

I feel like this album will be remembered as the one that had I’ll Change for You. I don’t think the rest of the album rises that high or has a defined re-invention, progression, and/or core batch of all-timer songs like BMAMC, Puberty, BTC, and the Land. I’ll Change for You is a top tier all-timer.

 

I partially agree with that, but I also feel that part of what makes the song work so well is that it's a moment of lucidity in the middle of the spiral that is the rest of the album, so it's hard for me to separate it like that. It feels of note that it's one of the few songs (perhaps the only) that takes place outside of "the house".

As a whole, I'd currently put this album behind all those just mentioned, but I'm also still deciding how I feel about it.

I wish this had stuck with me a little more to be honest. It’s the first Mitski album since I got into her that kind of came and went for me. There are a few highlights and overall it’s good, just not my favorite.

On the other hand, This Land is aging so well for me. I would really make an argument that it’s one of the more underrated albums of the last several years. Might honestly be my favorite Mitski album

 

Revisited the other month. Might be my favorite now behind BMaMC
