“Everywhere” is the “Somebody’s Calling Me” (‘This is Happening’, 2010) of this record. I won’t explain this take.
forgot to mention that when I picked up the vinyl at Newbury, the cashier handed me a Mitski lenticular card. I wonder if that was exclusive to the store. edit: looks like other stores had it too, here’s a video someone posted of it
Yeah this is where I’m at, every time I’ve put this on I’ve had to replay it again, one listen isn’t satisfying enough
Got home drunk from a super bowl party last night and put this on. I can see myself in the crowd a few times
never really been a big fan of Mitski outside of really liking a few songs off the last record but I checked this one out the other day and I really liked it.
This album might do what Jubilee did for me last year, in terms of inviting me to go back to the first two records and see what I failed to appreciate in them the first time. Mitski's always been kind of on my periphery because I often have a hard time paying attention to albums you're meant to "sit with" or experience a few times before you can really develop an opinion. Those kinds of artists always become my favorites, but only if I find the spark necessary to put effort into starting out. This album feels sparky.
I feel like Mitski and St. Vincent follow a similar trajectory for me, where their third and fifth albums resonated more strongly with me, while their fourth and sixth, while good, didn't do so as much And, yeah, people holding up their phones at shows and blocking others' view is the most annoying thing. I'm there to be in the moment, the only pics I ever take at shows are of the names on the marquee
I RARELY take pics or vids at a show. If I do I only will if I’m in a position to basically hide my camera or keep it low so it’s not obstructing views, and I usually keep it against my chest so no one (including me) can even see what the screen is capturing.
Wild that she's getting so much backlash for those tweets especially with how nice she was about it and how she literally said everyone can still do what they want.
I always just snap a couple pics if I even remember just to put on stories or whatever, also guilty of watching alot of full sets on YouTube, so I can appreciate these phone the whole time people.
