Reminds me, mastery-of-skills wise, of I Am Easy to Find. An artist who can do anything, doing what they want, for as long or short as they want, as pretty or as ramshackle as they want, while not doing any of the things they don’t want to do…and doing all that exceptionally.
I've enjoyed/respected what's come before, but this will be the first Mitski stuff to get into my rotation.
I'm on I Guess, and I really have no complaints so far already can't wait to keep diving into it, at this point she can't do wrong.
“Working for the Knife” really has grown on me, what a tune. I think the production on this is actually pretty great. There’s a lot of cool things going on here.
This is good. Still a step down from the last two but those albums were incredible. That transition from the quiet fade of I Guess to the Wonderful-Christmastime-ass synths on That’s Our Lamp is so goofy I love it lol
This might be one of my more unhinged takes but the chorus of stay soft really reminds me of Billy Joel, maybe even a specific song but I can’t place it. Anyway on my third listen and I love the album.
No surprise here, it's really good. Not vibing on Should've Been Me - a bit too haunted carnival for my liking
this has some great stuff but definitely feels more like a collection of songs than an album, especially compared to her last few records. that’s our lamp feels weird as a closer
Once again she freaked it. I don’t think this touches my favorites from her (Be the Cowboy and BMAMC) but it doesn’t need to. This feels like the album she needed to make after Be the Cowboy, and I’m here for it.
outside of the only heartbreaker and that's our lamp this did nothing for me. glad it's connecting for so many others though.
Should’ve Been Me is so good. I was trying to figure out what it reminds me of and I think it’s a more deranged Me and My Husband.
