idk, that's just always how i've felt about it. not meant to criticize her experiences or anything of course, but sonically it's just felt far more bland than bury me. which i mean, she was transitioning to working in bigger studios and being on a bigger label, so creative lumps aren't surprising. this one seems like it's going to be excellent
Makeout Creek is one of those albums that just sucker punched me the first time I heard it. I was head over heels in love with it so it was hard for Puberty 2 to live up to that. I generally prefer the Puberty 2 songs live than on the record. Still a really really great album. This song is up there with some of the Makeout Creek stuff.
Puberty2 has some stone cold classics though. Happy, I Bet On Losing Dogs, My Body Is Made Of Crushed Little Stars, Thursday Girl, and A Burning Hill is a superb closer.
i will say hearing my body is made of crushed little stars for the first time on record was so exciting because i had seen her play it for like, two years before that and couldn't figure out where it was from, haha. i barely associate that song with that record
i'm also hyped she's big enough to have 60 posts in a few hours!!! she's come so far since late 2014!
She played a new song at NonComm last night (not “Geyser”) and it ROCKED. Easily the best (and catchiest) song of her set, which included all her big songs.
the big hook of geyser i feel i've heard before. i saw someone tweet she's played it live before so i feel like she definitely played it in a drastically different form at one point
Jessica is incredible and underrated so that’s just icing on the cake EDIT: ahh fuck I have Nine Inch Nails tickets for that night, alas
