I actually loved Felicity back in the day and totally forgot that he had anything to do with that until I pulled him up on Wikipedia just now, so apparently I am the turd

  4. He also did the score for Night Beast (1982) lol

  5. Like I said, hits and misses. He's undeniably talented while also having dropped the ball a couple of times (in particular with Star Wars), but I think boiling his talent down to "a cool hook for a TV show" is kinda crazy lol

that's fair. I'll give you that. but I do think he has had a remarkable level of success given that he has pretty distinct flaws and weaknesses that show up consistently across almost all of his larger-budgeted projects.

I unabashedly love his Star Trek from 2009, but Into Darkness is a mess that did not need to be. The Rise of Skywalker is hands down one of the worst movies that I have ever started in my entire life, but I do not think that all of the fault lies with Abrams for that one.

He would probably have to make the single greatest piece of cinema in the history of the medium to live down "somehow, Palpatine returned" though.

I’ll always defend the 2009 “Star Trek.” Tremendously fun movie.

yeah i've mentioned it before but they put it back in theaters briefly last summer I think and I was the only person in the auditorium and had a blast

As someone who doesn’t care about Star Trek I had fun with all 3 of the newer ones although I haven’t seen into darkness or beyond since the theater.

  10. Yeah I remember really loving Into Darkness without any attachment to the source material. I have also stopped caring about Star Wars almost completely, which is sad, but has subsequently made me soften on Rise of Skywalker, which is extremely stupid and the worst Star Wars film but fun enough if you stop caring and lock in on it being one of the biggest fumbles of all-time.

I honestly couldn't finish it, and it turned me off of almost all other Star Wars. I did watch Andor though, which was really good.

for mcquarrie to give a quote about fan service being actively bad for movie watchers and then to deliver that really boggles the mind

  16. Didn't even think twice about it tbh, it's an offhanded character connection that explains his initial disdain for and skepticism of Hunt. Nowhere near as egregious as the type of stuff Disney did with Star Wars

it would be more interesting if they did anything at all with the character in either movie

I genuinely didn't know it was a reveal, I thought they were just going over info we / they already knew

Making him a Phelps was odd and didn’t really add anything of value, IMO.

Pull off his face to reveal Jon Voight with a crossbow.

One very minor thing that bothered me was why the camera kept cutting to the villain wearing the poison pill like 15 times. We get it, movie!

the only quibble I had with that sequence at all was that I don't think biplanes like that would be fast enough to get you far enough away from a nuclear explosion in time so that you don't die, but I am neither a biplane specialist nor a nuclear scientist

plus I'm sure TC did his research

  24. Part of the fun of the movies is they don’t make any sense.
