honestly, the practical nature comes thru the screen in a big way - that scene had me gripping the armrests of my chair in a way that is increasingly rare in this day and age

  4. Yeah, that was a set piece that started slow and gradually grew in tension, honestly felt like something new for the franchise in that respect. I guess somewhat similar to the break-in from the original in a weird way?

Just saw it this afternoon. Epic as expected. They've taken on a whole new life ever since Ghost Protocol.

Also, who know the amount of foreshadowing this scene would be 20 years later.

    1000%

and I've seen all of them at least 3 times (aside from the new one yet which just once so far) and all but the first one in theaters (Which I saw on VHS when I was 13 in 1999 after playing the n64 game). As great as 4-6 were they didn't have me on the edge of my seat for the whole film like 7. From the airport scene to pretty much the end of the film is the most thrilling part of the part of the whole franchise imo, although I would just trim the mini-smart car chase and the train car derailment sequence a smidge. And 8 was just icing on the cake for the whole series, culminating everything together from all the films. Since Ghost Protocol the series has just gotten continually better with each installment and I consider 7 and 8 as pretty much a package deal, with 7 just a tad better.

Finally saw it. Pretty much echo what everyone said here - Long ass start to the movie, but pretty fun after that.

Poor Ving Rhames. Disappears like halfway through Dead Reckoning and well you know in this one. Guess Arby’s needed him more than IMF.

It felt like a real big tonal jump from the big ambush in the data center mines to the main villain looking like Snoopy in his plane, trying to run Ethan down. The plane fight was cool, not as much as the one in Fallout, but Tom Cruise’s commitment always sells it. I can’t believe someone wrote the line “Catch me if you can!” for the villain.

The Entity will forever be corny. Ethan coming face to face with it just is kind of lame. AI is without a doubt a supervillain, but there had to be a better way to portray it.

Gonna miss this franchise. It can’t be like a Bond because it really is all about Cruise being a madman and Ethan Hunt going to whatever lengths to stop the bad guys and protect his team. Can’t really be replaced.

I haven't rewatched them all lately, but my son recently just binged the whole series and I caught bits & pieces, and I think Ghost Protocol is still my favorite. Series really shifts into high gear with that one and never lets up though, and they're all awesome after that.

The first one is so unique and has DePalma's fingerprints all over it. I remember my wife laughing while my son was watching 2 and asking what the hell was with all the slow mo birds. I recall really enjoying 3 at the time and loving PSH as the villain, but I have since become completely burnt out on / utterly sick of JJ Abrams and it makes me not want to watch anything of his because he's such a turd.

  18. It is increasingly sounding like my love for MI:3 is in part due to me not really caring about Star Wars or other Abrams related projects

  20. Abrams has had some hits and some misses, people put way too much stake in the guy. MI3 is a hit, baby

he's a good visual director who shoots exciting sequences. I'd say he's good at casting too. but creatively, as a storyteller, he's a complete and total hack.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time he's a dude who has been handed the reigns at various times to Star Trek, Star Wars & Mission: Impossible - that's a lot of mileage out of a cool hook for a mystery TV show

I'm not out to defend Abrams, but just for the sake of accuracy, are you aware he did quite a bit before Lost?

if all of the best lines from Armageddon can be credited to him then I take back anything ill that I have ever said of him
