People are miserable in general, has nothing to do with theaters. I worked in a call center for cable repair for 10 years, and I've heard pretty much everything you can tell another human being on the phone.

What I'm saying is I get being treated like garbage, but I don't think that's a reason to blanket insult everyone who goes to see a movie.

You started this whole thing by saying “abolish theaters”????

Just saw this in a relatively crowded theater and had a nice time and no one around me annoyed me!

Movie absolutely ruled also, my jaw was on the floor during many scenes.

I don't see how you can classify people who go to movies as some sort of subset of the larger population. Almost everyone goes to the theater once in a while. It's like saying you hate people who have a cell phone.

My sister had a miserable experience working at a movie theatre, but still goes to see movies at the theatre

I hate movie theaters because I almost always have a bad experience. I almost always have a good experience watching at home. I would welcome a collapse of the theater industry so I can always watch movies at home (which I guess I should’ve added that this is a slightly tongue in cheek take but I assumed the phrase “abolish movie theaters” was ridiculous enough to assume so.) In addition to my miserable movie going experiences, working at one was also miserable.

Anyway Pom’s outfits fucking rule in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One

Popcorn is much better in the theater. Also, going in the middle of the day gets rid of the crowd problem.

Not to put you on the spot and if you don't want to share, that's fine, but now I'm really curious what kind of experiences you've had. Like, I'd say the majority of my theater-going experiences have been what I'd call normal. Nothing preventing me from enjoying the film I came to see. Can't imagine what it's like for someone to never have a single good theater experience or what that means.

The easiest way to avoid bad crowds at the theater is to just go on a M-Th weeknight. Or the 11am Sunday showings. Even then, peak weekend showings have been 95% fine in my movie going experience.

some movies just absolutely kick ass on big screens with stellar sound systems. some movies kick ass in a theater full of people reacting to the movie. we have so few public spaces where people of all walks and types do things together anymore. weird to root for it to collapse.

small perk of not working a traditional 9-5 is I go during the week at like 2pm. Mission Impossible crowd last week was perfectly fine.

On another note I understand the whole "only see blockbusters in theaters for the spectacle" thing but smaller movies deserve to be seen in theaters too. Off the top of my head Banshees of Inisherin and Past Lives looked beautiful in theaters.

Ya if theaters were to collapse no good movies would be made. There is no financial incentive to give a shit about making a direct to streaming movie any good

this movie rocked. all of the reasons ppl say it did not rock are silly. friend of mine said it was like mcquarrie decided to remake 1-3 in his own image. loved the distinct look of this one, tight locked-shots that mimic the tight spaces the characters keep finding themselves in. alley fight was the peak for me, so simple and effective and i loved how the camera kept like backflipping over it

This had some of the funniest techno-babble I’ve heard in a long time as well lol. There was a line near the beginning about the AI wanting to “escape into the cloud” that really got me.

I saw this again today, and I did not realize how close to the screen the second row was in our Dolby theater. Regardless, enjoyed this in Dolby more than IMAX.
