Also, I'm the head writer for the local tv show MN Tonight, and I thought I"d just post about it in here. It's a local political comedy talk show that mixes humor and current events in the vein of your Daily Shows and Last Week Tonights. We film in front of a live audience every other Monday at Minneapolis Telecommunications Network in NE Mpls on Central & 15th. It's free, and doors are at 7pm with the show going from 7:30-8:30. We're taking the summer off, but we'll be starting back up in late August. So in the meantime, if you guys want, feel free to check out our Facebook and Youtube pages. It would mean a ton to me; I'm really proud of this show and I think, between our interview guests and show subjects, we could do a small amount of good for this city. Also, if you're a writer (and even if you're not) and you want to join our team, we're looking for new staff through the middle of next month (for clarity, the positions are all unpaid but pay millions through creative fulfillment). So if you want to join a team of people making a show like this, let us know by filling out the application here! Also also, if you're in a local band that wants to be a musical guest on an upcoming episode, email Luke Hofland at 09hofllu@gmail.com. Thanks, guys! No more self-promotion from me after this, haha. I swear.
The MCS show last Friday was wicked good. They'll be missed so terribly. Hardest part for me is watching how good they are live, too. They put on such great shows! I hope they sneak in some local holiday/reunion shows here and there for us in the future.
I am just hanging in my living room, a little bit stoned, been listening to music all night. My patio shift got cut (for obvious reasons, haha), so I ended up with an accidental night off. Probably gonna order some Luce here in a minute. And yourself? How's the move been, you digging the city so far?
Also, Cymbals Eat Guitars w/ Field Mouse at the Entry in October. That show is going to be nutso good. Also also, if anyone has tickets to any of these shows, we should meet up at one! Fear of Men w/ Puro Instinct @ 7th Street Entry (7/9) Marissa Nadler @ 7th St. Entry (7/11) Big Thief w/ TBA @Triple Rock (7/12) Car Seat Headrest w/ TBA @ Triple Rock (7/18) Mitski w/ Japanese Breakfast @ 7th St. Entry (7/19)
Anyone else going to Blink in September? My wife and I both called in "sick" to work today and just had a nice relaxing day and got some stuff done. Went to MOA (barf) and tried Shake Shack (delicious) too. Loving the storms tonight.
Nice. That sounds like a really good time save MOA. Envious that you tried SS already, though. I really, really want to. Was it crazy busy?
Yes! Surprising my 17 year old brother who's at basic training right now. The lightning cracks tonight sounded so strange. Almost like bombs dropping in old WW2 docs. I swear I've never heard noises like them before.
Haha nice. Yeah this storm has been crazy. What is Luce? I am still at an Eden Prairie hotel but I found a place called Inglewood Trails in Uptown/St. Louis Park-ish area. It's right by Lake Calhoun so I'm pretty excited. I'm in the approval process right now and it's taking forrrrreverrrrr, argh. I have a friend coming this weekend so it'll be my first time to go balls to the wall and explore. I'm really excited.
Ha, whoops! Pizza Luce, it's a local spot that's definitely a Minneapolis landmark as far as food goes. Really great stuff. And shitty to hear about the wait you're having to deal with all this housing stuff. I know how frustrating moving can be when it goes quickly, I can't imagine having it extended for that long. Did you move for work or any particular reason, or just to move? And sweet, man! What's on your itinerary, you know yet?
I will definitely have to check that out. There's so many pizza places around, I keep hearing of new ones I have to try haha. Yeah, it's not bad. I'm just so grateful I'm in a hotel and not like, living on a couch or something (I did that for 6 months last year for an unpaid internship-- good times). I should hear back this week if I get approved for the apt. or not, then I'll be able to move. I got a job with the Vikings as a video producer. I've only worked there for a couple weeks but it's been amazing so far. It's sort of a weird time to start because the players have been gone so there's not much going on. But at the same time, it's been good to slowly ease-in to everything. It's the calm before the storm, that's for sure
It wasn't terribly busy, we waited about 3 minutes in line and then another 5 to get our food. It's good stuff but I don't think you need to make a drive to MOA *just* for shake shack. Definitely hit it up if you're already there doing some shopping.
I get two free tickets to each home game. I'm giving them all to my parents this season since I'm a good son, haha. I'm not sure about discounted tickets on top of that? I'll check
I was very impressed with the Minneapolis Institute of Art today. I could have spent much more time there than I did.
What's it like up there? What's the city vibe? Atmosphere? I've had a job offer in the Minneapolis area but didn't end up taking it. EDIT: Should mention I'm from Jersey and currently work in NYC so I'm assuming life there is a tad different.
I love that place, much more than the Walker Art Museum; I've been there a couple times in the last few years now and I still don't think I've seen everything yet. I'm one who likes reading as much as I can at museums, so i tend to go kinda slow through them. But yeah I love how grand the place feels, especially the columns on the outside.
mIA is so huge and great. I've been there probably 6 times in the last year and still haven't seen everything.
