Mineral Band

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by troyplaysbass, Mar 30, 2016.

  1. Mineral was an emo band from Texas. Their two full-lengths, The Power of Failing and Endserenading, are among the genre's best.

Pound for pound probably the best 90s emo band. Not a bad song in their small but powerful catalog. "Parking Lot" fucks me up every time. Great guitar tones too.

I'm starting to realize just how much EndSerenading means to me

that also may or may not be a lyric from an upcoming batch of songs I wrote. Cheesy I know, but I like to reference other bands/albums/songs so sue me.

I love power of failing. I was always a huge end serenading fan but finally decided to give the first one a chance and was blown away

  6. are they still playing shows or anything? or have they gone off the radar once again?

It changes every time I listen to the record, but I think right now it's Walking To Winter, with &Serenading, Unfinished, and A Letter close behind. Yours?

The back to back punch of Forlvadell and WalkingToWinter always gets me. My favorite songs

ForIvadell is also really good. There's a moment in each song that blows me away, really. This record has potential to mean a lot to me by the looks of it.

Every time I listen to Gjs I get reminded of The Hotelier's Discomfort Revisited and I am 100% okay with it. I remember some buzz about Mineral on the Goodness thread a couple months back and I can see why.

I feel like Mineral and The Weakerthans are the two biggest influencers to the Hotelier sound

Left & Leaving is an absolute masterpiece. Also if you haven't check out The Dismemberment Plan. Their 1999 album Emergency & I is also a masterpiece and massively influential to The Hotelier and several other bands.

    Tell em @cwhit

3 amazing albums being discussed right now.

EndSerenading is just so fucking cathartic and emotional. Also I feel like this doesnt get enough mention but the song structures and guitar tones are so great.

Band did some wacky things with structure, especially on that album

yeah a lot of the songs build up to a specific moment and then cool off afterwards. Or they feel like two songs were slammed together.

Absolutely. They're big on repetition too, but with some subtle variation usually in dynamics so that it still feels different. And, like Tristan said yesterday, they had no fuckin hooks haha

Also, unfinished and forivadell are my favorites on the album, so I share a favorite with both of you
