Laugh At Me is so lush. I know that and B A D I D E A are poppier than what they normally write but man, I love them both to death.
I hate him but we've been over this, I don't want to bring it into another thread but I can't imagine someone's takes on music I'd want to read less
A few plays in and this record toes the line between a heavier band making the crossover into more accessible poppy music really well. It can be so cheesy and this stays right in the sweet spot the whole time. Really digging it.
This sums it up for me as well. Really feels like they found the line up they needed and wrote the record they could finally write.
I was talking to a buddy and we agreed feels a lot like the turnstile jump from DIY hardcore band to more melodic, poppy music for the masses in a way that doesn’t suck. I think it’s a net positive for guitar based rock music and culture overall.
Turnstile did that jump a hell of a lot more seamlessly than MG did though, IMO, especially when you check the vibes.
That was essentially my response too. My buddy said he liked the jump MG better and I had the opposite thought. I think it’s cool that bands are making a pivot and it’s not “SELLOUT” vibes but we all celebrate the tides shifting in bands getting their flowers for doing cool stuff and breaking through.
Really liked the first two tracks on here so I was hopeful but it falls off from there, idk. Think this might just be a “couple tracks” band for me
Anyone drink the kool aid yet (I know it's actually lemonade)? I agree that the pivot happened more on Life Under the Gun. Can you really pivot after only a couple EPs? After a few spins this new one has really started to grow on me. It is not as immediate as LUTG for me, but in the long run it might be better.
I don't remember where I read it, and maybe it's apocryphal, but wasn't the story that Life Under the Gun was written first, but Ian thought it would be to jarring of a stylistic shift for RJC fans so he went back and wrote the All Roads... songs to ease the transition and introduce some of the poppier elements within songs that hewed closer to hardcore? In any case, I dig the album overall. I don't like the acoustic stuff as much, but most of the album will make it onto my marathon playlist in a few weeks.
Yeah I heard him say that on a podcast, maybe it was the first ever podcast but he absolutely said it
Great show tonight, one of the most fun live bands right now. I do think hearing the “ooh ooh” at the beginning of Kick will sustain me for the rest of my life.
