Maybe this will grow on me, but I was underwhelmed on first listen. There were a few shining moments, but it all just kinda washed over me. May be just because I listened to the whole thing in one go...

Quavo singing “tryna save the world but it’s not my job” is a pretty random way to close out the album

  5. Album isn’t bad, it’s just way too long and it all blends together

This is great. Some of their best songs and cool new experiments scattered throughout. For anyone looking for "key tracks," here's my list. But I recommend giving it a full listen once bc it's easy to see how any song could stick out to different people.

The bridge in Too Much Jewelry was pretty unexpected, but it rules

we live in a time where migos had a meme about them made

and it turned into a song they've made

    truly amazing times

I love the new national anthem

    Just a friendly reminder

Needed to cut at least 10 songs. Found myself tuning out for entire songs because they had no reason to exist. The songs that are good are really good ('Stir Fry', 'Too Much Jewelry', and 'Gang Gang' make for an incredible three song run. Those songs, 'Narcos', 'Too Playa', and 'Made Men' tease a much more interesting record). However, the inspired moments don't make up for the bloat.

It also does sound terrible. Whoever mastered the record should be fired, if it was even mastered.

Haven’t dug into this myself yet but it is really surprising that one of the biggest rap acts right now wouldn’t invest in a quality mix and master

edit: according to wiki a total of 10 engineers worked on this

  20. "CULTURE 2 features 24 tracks in total which gives them an upper hand in aggregating tons of that will count towards the final figures for both Neilsen/Soundscan and RIAA. But here’s another interesting bit — the CD edition of the album will hit stores on February 2nd and it will be a double disc set containing 12 songs each. This also means that all pure sales of the album will be counted twice for RIAA purposes (Soundscan only counts them as one sale). For example, if CULTURE 2 sells 20k copies of the album in the week ending Feb. 8, it will be counted as 40k towards RIAA certifications and with 24 songs on the digital edition, Migos will be able to take full advantage of 1,500 streams = 1 sale rule."

    Yeah I wonder why it's 24 tracks

Sounds like Chris Brown record sales math to me.

  22. Yeah frankly idk if that double disc thing for RIAA is true

I don’t blame you, not a very reputable source. But it would make sense why the album is the way it is. They also put it on Spotify as a playlist as well as an album.

  24. The track length thing is definitely a consequence of streaming, it’s an industry wide trend

Well yeah. It’s unfortunate, as someone who prefers to listen to an album all the way through. Definitely watering down a lot of good records that could have been trimmed.

I like this a lot though.
