Sorry, I know people have already commented on this, but don’t discount the power of repetition and hearing something from a young age. Your family over 72 obviously wouldn’t buy it cause that’s not how they were raised. I literally grew up in a cult where I was taught from a very young age that the world would end in 2011. I know people who were absolutely devastated when it didn’t happen, despite the fact that it would have meant everyone they know and love dying. I even knew one guy who was incredibly passionate about it and committed suicide after it failed to come to fruition. It’s really not that far fetched.
Sorry to hear about the guy you knew but I’m genuinely fascinated with people of this mindset. Do you still keep in touch with those people? How did they move on with their lives?
I mean, my mom was a big proponent (with my grandfather being the leader of the whole thing. He’s since passed on) so, yeah. But we don’t really talk about religion anymore and she knows I’m not religious But for the most part, no. And a lot of the people I knew who from then who were my age are pretty normal and don’t seem to be too affected by it. It was mainly just the people who strongly believed in n it that I think struggled but I don’t really know what happened to them.
Towards the end you see a small group of women and children chopping wood with their arm/hand maybe? But they would act as if they were wielding an axe while breaking it. What was that about? Were they practicing their technique or motion for when/if they need to swing that massive hammer to finish off one of 73 year olds that doesn’t die from the fall? Maybe it was nothing.
This movie is still sticking in my brain. The elder woman's brain cracking open like a smashed pumpkin on the rock is a great first gore shot. Though when they ascended onto the cliff I anticipated they'd commit suicide since Pelle previously hinted it for when you reach 72
been listening to the score quite frequently at work and when people come into my office they look alarmed
