Good interview with Ari Aster (spoilers, obv.) talking about the reaction he desires from audiences, etc.: What Kind of Movie Ari Aster Wanted 'Midsommar' to Be
I really really loved this. There's a lot to take in, but I'll be thinking about this for a while. Also the cinematography is breathtaking.
True. But I'm a baby sometimes. However, I did watch Hereditary yesterday and none of it made me jump or anything, just creeped me out heavily.
Then you'll probably be good for this. It's not really scary as much as it is creepy and has an almost unbearable sense of dread.
IMO it’s not that bad but I also wasn’t like incredibly disturbed by the head in Hereditary as much as I was just shocked that they showed it
the gore is very sparse but like in hereditary when it hits it really hits, probably more so than hereditary, it is so brutal but presented in a very matter of the fact way... very haunting.. not like a gory kill in any typical horror movie the presentation is very different lol i really didn’t know if i could handle the rest of the movie after a certain scene but i made it through
so I'm pretty sure a few of the headline rotten tomato reviews have spoiled this movie already for me. I'm going to spoiler tag the below but for those that have seen, does this give away what I think it gives away? A droll comedy of manners, an irresistible revenge fantasy and a warning to bad boyfriends everywhere. It's the best breakup movie I've seen in ages.
That I can usually take. What messes me up is things like tendons being slit or like degloving/skinning. Plus animals being tortured/killed, but I’ve already resigned myself to this being bad in that area.
yes lol but full disclosure i microdosed for this movie because i am brave, but that scene really shook me up
At my theater we have a ton of old people that go see any new movie that comes out without knowing what it’s about and god I wish I worked there to know their reactions to this
There's none of any of that. Almost any type of violence happens offscreen. And if you see something skinned, it's after the fact so you're never watching something in the process of it happening.
I liked this a lot more than Hereditary (largely for the set design/overall look of the movie) but holy fuck was it long. Like exhaustively long. The cliff jumping scene was initially one of the gnarliest/coolest parts of a movie I've seen in a long time, but then it just goes on and on with hammering the dudes head 3 times and cutting to Dani over and over. It kind of ruined it. I feel like almost every scene could have been shortened without losing anything and it would have actually helped in most cases. Though I LOVED the design of everything. Some incredible shots. Felt very classic.
