I found that deeply, deeply upsetting. I think I was really getting into what was going on at that point haha
Yeah I can see where you're coming from. I was just expecting him to take a dive into one of the burning houses lol
finished this, it was wild. definitely his best finale he did not hold back lmao I gotta say it was almost comical how despicable Bev was though. like he usually treats his characters with such care and here's this cardboard cut-out villain no-one could possibly stand. it was distracting after a while imo
Looking back at how I reacted to the first episode, I cannot believe I was as invested and affected by everything that was happening in the finale as I ultimately was. That's pretty incredible. I really struggled with some of the early Riley scenes, but I not only came out of my seat during his scene on the boat with Erin despite it being clear exactly what was about to happen, but I had a strong emotional reaction to it as well. As soon as this ended I immediately felt like it was the best thing Flanagan has ever done. I'll need to sit with it a while and definitely watch it again, but I really thought this was incredible. Random anecdote that I thought was funny - before I realized that they were subtly de-aging some of the characters, I was thinking in my head why am I starting to find the doctor's extremely old and frail mother so attractive...??? Turns out she was played by Alex Essoe which I didn't realize, even though it was kinda obvious that a lot of the actors were younger than the characters they were playing. Mike Flanagan loves Henry Thomas but he desperately wants him to be older than he is!
I love Henry Thomas too but I feel like he was miscast here, frankly. his performance didn't really ever click gotta give credit to Rahul Kohli for one of the best performances here even with the shaky American accent though. he's truly just amazing
I kind of felt like that as well. The reveal with Sarah didn't feel very earned, it should've been hinted early on a bit more. Also, maybe I'm wrong but I do think if he hadn't gotten shot he would've handled the end very differently, which is a scary thought. They were able to lose control of the situation partly because Bev was so deluded and arrogant. If they'd kept the doors closed and contained the infection to the people in the church instead of letting everyone loose on the entire island maybe they wouldn't have all died. Bev really be out there burning down buildings
Watched this in two days - really entertaining watch but a lot of it was really cheesy or boring or just bad. Episode 5, especially the ending, was by far the best moment.
2 episodes in and I'm really not loving the show bringing cats and dogs into this . Good season so far, though. Curious of when it starts to get scary
My family was easter and Christmas Catholics so I felt like father Paul was scolding me in episode 2 lmao
Okay, I'm pissed I didn't start this yesterday because now I have to go to work tomorrow instead of binge watching the whole thing
This was great. Only real complaint is that some of the vfx and green screen was too noticeable at times, but otherwise I loved this.
I can't stop thinking about this. My wife wants to watch it, so I think I'm gonna jump in on that and get a rewatch in pretty quick.
Just started the first episode and am once again being reminded Flanagan is the absolute best at doing creepy eyes.
So, I'm only on episode 4, but are we really supposed to believe that people can't tell the difference between the taste of blood and wine? That's gotta be what the priest is giving everyone in place of Communion, right?
I struggled a little bit with the idea that nobody on this island seems to have heard of vampires. Starting with the priest and all the way on down to everyone else. What I'm going with right now is that Father Pruitt knew exactly what he was doing the whole time, and was motivated by being so old and close to death and ultimately not wanting himself or the woman he loves or their child to die, even though in the back of his mind he knew what he / they were doing was monstrous and ultimately wrong. This also ties into his 'turn' later on. But I'm not sure this is exactly how I feel about it either, it's just where I'm at right now.
I just finished Episode 5 of this and I am fucking gutted at Riley's death. I really liked his character and while the bit with him finally seeing that girl he killed whole again was beautifully done, it's still very sad. Also, how the hell does Bev manage to be more evil than the goddamn vampires?! She's awful in pretty much every way.
Starting the last episode now. Wow what a show. Still not sure that I'm liking this as much as Hill House and Bly, though.
I feel like Hill House, Bly, and this are all going for different vibes. Hill House is the scariest (although I still have two episodes of Mass), but I think both Bly and this have resonated with me more emotionally. But that could just be recency bias talking. I do think Hill House is the better overall package.
Very good finale. Definitely satisfying to see Bev meet her end lol. One thing I'm perplexed by is... What killed Pruitt in the first place? He almost seemed to have the same death that the dog had, but I can't think of any reason why Bev would try to poison a priest
