6. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future (hip hop, he just doesn't miss. One of my fav rappers)
7. oso oso - sore thumb (different for them, but still awesome emo)
8. proper. - The Great American Novel (a POC fronted emo band with political lyrics)
9. Pup - THE UNRAVELING OF PUP THE BAND (the best pop punk experimenting with their sound)
10. Caracara - New Preoccupations (RIYL Manchester Orchestra, I guess)
11. Oceanator - Nothing’s Ever Fine (POC woman indie, amazing song writer)

Not gonna make a list right now, but there have been some incredibly great surprises through half a year. What a gift to have two top 5 contenders (Nilüfer Yanya and Soul Glo) from artists I had no idea existed on January 1. It’s been years since that’s happened for me.

Also, like, Wilco made a bonafide great album again.

I have never heard of the stereo before so I’ll check them out

 

Not the best year for music for me so far. My top 4 albums are great (Caracara is by far my favorite) but there’s a huge drop off after that. It’s been a great year for EPs this year. I’ve listened to my top 6 EPs a lot more than most albums on my list. I’ll do a little write up on some of the albums and EPs I haven’t seen a ton of discussion about on here.

Caracara- New Preoccupations

Sweet Pill - Where the Heart is
A lot of chorus members would love this but I haven’t seen too much talk about it yet. It’s mostly upbeat emo bangers with mathy guitars. The lead singer sounds a little like Haley Williams and a little like Marisa Dabice from Mannequin Pussy. These songs go hard. Listen to High Hopes if you want a taste of what they’re about.

This EP fucking rocks. Massive sludgy chords with great songwriting. A perfect mix of emo and shoegaze that many bands try and few get right. Ugly Bug is my favorite song on here if you just want one song to check them out.
