Hate crossing the border for shows but Columbus as the closest in-state also sucks. Missed them opening for The Wonder Years a couple weeks ago so I think I’ll have to be there.
personally I loved the shift to a harder-edged sound on DIAWB and would love them to continue ahead in that kind of direction
Loved the heaviness of Death, but it’s not what I want them to continue to do. They’re amazing songwriters and I’d rather them lean into that poppiness.
I’m really into the last two singles and hope that we get an album in that vein however I trust that whatever direction they go with it’ll work out
I was going to say based on the Santeria cover and the "chillness" of the past two singles that's probably it but I wouldn't put it past them to put a heavy track or two on.
I have an interview with them going up next week and Nathan said he felt like he got a lot out of the heavy sound on the last record and wasn’t able to write as much like that for the new stuff
Just a short little ditty. Apple Music is lumping it with the other singles, so are we assuming it's 3 songs from whatever album is next?
Dig it. Def a transition track but love the duality of how these guys can be super fuckin noisy but so chill at the same time.
I think this is probably a poor choice for a single, but it seems like a really good application of the lessons learned about songwriting on DIAWB. Like I can’t imagine choosing to listen to this in a vacuum on its own very often, but I imagine as a transition track/intermission on an album working towards a greater point this can probably act as a great pallet cleanser & lyrical moment. I think it’s pretty good and I’ll be listening again but it just doesn’t scream “single” to me.
Seeing them tomorrow night in Toronto. Haven’t seen them since they toured Much Love with Dangerous Summer, and my wife and I are pumped to say the least! It doesn’t seem like he’s turning his back on the heavier stuff, just that he rolls with what is working at any time. For me Much Love hits the perfect balance of grunge and punk I’m looking for, but my wife listens to Stovall all the damn time.
