I've listened to this band multiple times, but never much and it never really clicked, but since they're going on Parahoy I figured it was time to give them a serious listen (i've usually just casually listened to singles or whatever). Anyway I figured I'd start with Brother, Sister since I understand that to be one of their more beloved albums. I was already enjoying it a lot, but then I got to Orange Spider and realized that fun. actually sampled them, and then I did a little digging and found out Andrew Dost played horns on the album, so now I have no choice but to love them.
I had no idea that fun. sampled mewithoutYou. How did I miss that? This is totally blowing my mind right now.
Yep it's the intro to All Alone off of Some Nights. When I heard Orange Spider I did a double take, then I looked it up quickly and it turns out it was true.
Just got back from the second show at Old Blue Last. Thought the crowd were much more into it this time. Unfortunately I was on my own and going through a lot of anxiety atm so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, but still a wonderful set. Picked up Brother, Sister on vinyl too.
Hahahaha I don't know it was immediately obviously to me. I had it on as background noise basically and then I heard it and it snapped me to attention I was like what is fun. doing on this album (obviously it's actually the other way around).
Pale Horses is basically tied with Brother Sister for my favorite mwY record. I cannot wait to see what this new one is all about.
brother sister and catch for us the foxes are my 2 and 1 respectively. pale horses is def. third though.
Pale Horses, Brother Sister and Catch For Us The Foxes are neck and neck for me these days. The older two have the added nostalgic value as they were pretty instrumental in my formative teenage years.
Pale Horses has probably fell down to 4th below Ten Stories for me now. I find myself drawn to that album a lot more whereas I only really go back to Red Cow and Rainbow Signs much from Pale Horses.
Brother Sister and Ten Stories are my top tier, Pale Horses is smack dab in the centre of my middle tier along with Catch and It's All Crazy (at least most of the time). So, like a 9.6/10 or something.
any of their last 4 could be my favorite on any given day. they're up there with, like, the National or Emperor X or Silo's Choice for artists I most trust to not fuck up at this point.
last night on PSN i asked @dylan what his fav mwY song is and then it just became 20 minutes of us gushing about how every song of theirs is wonderful Blue Hen might be my current favorite, i love the ending where Death gives his epic rebuttal to Aarons "death, where is thy sting?" in the most sarcastic yet poetic way. "Death where is thy sting?" You ought to put more thought into what you bravely sing Aft-mast ships of straw-short bricks You'll soon see exactly where my victory is The spring to its slumber Your lighthouse black Like virginal slumber I'll break like the lap Of your Delaware shore Your Blue Hen remains Will dissolve at my door Like a teaspoon of salt in the rain
