I had a dream last night Aaron traveling around the US dropping a 7" for each song off a new album in various local record stores secretly and I snagged the one he dropped off in KC but then the cashier stole it and the Menzingers were playing a show in the background.
Great to see them again last night in Nottingham. They were supporting Underoath so only 8 songs but it was still a good experience and I definitely enjoyed it.
Yeah, I've always preferred mewithoutYou although I did quite enjoy those two Underoath albums back in the day. Always great to hear someone else from the Chorus fam was there! I actually went by myself. What did you think of the mwY setlist?
Yeah I went by myself too, ha. I used to really like Define the Great Line and I like a good chunk of TOCS too so I still enjoyed their set. I was a bit disappointed with how they did Some Will Seek Forgiveness though, they should have just had Aaron Marsh on a backing track, ha. I liked it but it definitely could have been better for me. I liked the setlist they had for Dublin a lot more. I'd have happily cut Be Still Child, East Enders Wives and Torches Together for other songs. I was very happy with Seven Sisters though, don't think I've seen that one yet and I was surprised at how good Nice and Blue 1 was. Any set with Nice and Blue 2 is worth it for me though, I'll never get bored of that song.
Listened to TS last weekend in honor of it's almost five year anniversary, and I still think it's criminally overlooked in terms of the rest of their discography. Fox's Dream, Fuji Mermaid, and Bear's Vision are such great mwY staples now. Fuck I love this band. The horns on Bear's Vision make the song so much more emotional. Also I love the little guitar distortion part in Elephant.
I thought TS was underrated too before chorus. I maybe still underrate it but it's got some of his best lyricism. One thing I like about mwy is that those a to b songs sure do have new life in a live setting.
I was really pleased to see Seven Sisters too. That was a highlight for me. As was Nice & Blue - you're right, sounded really good live, particularly compared to some of the others from that album. I think they've played Nice & Blue Pt. 2 at each of the shows I've seen these last two years - it is a good track. I would have loved to have seen The Soviet which they played in Dublin and then Glasgow last night. And agree about Torches Together - it's funny as I love that song on the album as an opener, but didn't think it really worked as a closing track. It was still good to see them. And agree about Some Will Seek Forgiveness. Couldn't even tell that was the song to begin with.
Yeah the Soviet would have been so good. Also I could be forgetting but I still don't think I've seen them play January 1979 so I really wanted that.
That's a good point. I'm pretty sure I saw them play that back when they toured CFUTF and Brother, Sister. But then we're talking over 10 years ago...
Yeah, I wasn't even aware of the band back then, ha. I would have loved to have seen those tours though.
I got into them just before Catch For Us The Foxes came out and everyone at school had to listen to me go on about them. I think I was 13. None of my friends really understood the whole spoken word/shouty thing at that point sadly! Curiosity got the best of me and I've just gone through some really embarrassing old blogs to see if I wrote down what they played at those shows.
