I know recently we were all talking about how good the drummer is, and that's where I think he shines a lot. So many great drum fills on TS.
This band is just so tight. I can't think of very many bands that are as tight as mewithoutYou. I'm a musician, but not a schooled musicians - so a lot of the reasons for me thinking that are hard to put into words because I'll be trying to describe musical things that probably there are words for but I don't know them. But take Foxes Dream for example. That end part, how they all stop and start again in such unison, it's flawless. And they're SO good at doing that in their songs, and they'll do stuff like that on really weird beats where you wouldn't expect it. They rarely just play something in a non-impressive manner. Foxes Dream really isn't the best example of what I'm talking about, I can't think of any specific examples right now which is annoying because it happens in so many of their songs
the end of Four Word Letter pt 2 is something that puts me in awe every time more than most other pieces of music. so haunting
I think they're the best band I've ever experienced. Lyrics, music, their evolution from "post hardcore" or whatever you want to call it to what they became after [A->B] Life, etc... It's astounding. I had never heard of them and went to see Beloved and Norma Jean play back in 2003 and mewithoutYou were a part of the tour. I was 16 and never expected my life to change, but they played and it was never the same. I'm confident my life would be different in a big way if they weren't a band.
You said this really well. Their stocattos are just perfect which is what makes everything feel so good. Manchester orchestra does these really well too. Also their bass players lock up with the drummers bass drum so freaking well. They use syncopation really well to create dynamic shifts between sections and that's what makes them a special band.
smh Full Collapse and AB aren't even close to either of the respective bands best album, but I get it. I guess I don't really hear about that portion of the community as much. yeah, I def contribute to b, s hype but it seemed like in this thread there was a pretty good balance considering the tendency to gravitate towards favorites.
I still don't know if I wanna shell out the money since they're opening and with the money I'll spend getting there I won't be seeing them very long in comparison. But first show of the year though hmmm
I'm only passingly familiar with Circa but yeah I forgot they're playing a full album show so that helps with getting more familiar. Don't have to dig through all five or whatever albums
You need to familiarize yourself. Normally I'd recommend starting with Blue Sky Noise, but if you go to the show, then you should definitely start with On Letting Go.
Juturna is their first right? Figured I'd listen to that one and On Letting Go back to back and see where I stand
Blue Sky Noise is the only Circa album that I have really loved. Admittedly, I could probably give their other albums more of a chance.
yeah Juturna is their first. Start where you want, I just think Blue Sky Noise is by far their most accessible and would have the best chance of drawing you in I think.
