What new mystery is this? In overflowing emptiness! The invisible is seen among the shadows and the mist Before my doubting eyes The infinite appears this time The unquestionable is questioned But makes no reply!
or You're a door-without-a-key, a field-without-a-fence You made a holy fool of me, and I've thanked you ever since If she comes circling back, we'll end where we'd begun Like two pennies on the train track the train crushed into one Or if I'm a crown without a king, if I'm a broken, open seed If I come without a thing, I come with all I need No boat out in the blue, no place to rest your head The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead
Yeah I figured that part of sweater would be most people's. That's either mine or the "I was born of a thought of mine..." verse from lilac queen
its also maybe their most singable song like peacocks wandering the walkways of the zoo, we have twice the autonomy that giraffes and tigers do nobody knows me, no one clips my claw were like children dressing in our parents clothes
When I was an avid church goer I did a cover of it for the church service. Most people liked it but the people that payed attention to the lyrics were offended with the questioning and doubt. That is such a dark lyric. Aaron really don't think highly of himself most days
"And started on the Abrahamic joke we knew About apostrophes and pronouns and you-remember-who "But let's keep that silly punchline between me and you Little Haroon And the man in the moon." Because: Aaron Weiss of mewithoutYou • chorus.fm
Collectively it's the entirety of Messes of Men, Wolf Am I!, and Sweater. to me, that clearly shows an arc, one of loud existentialism mired by self deprecation when concerned with terrestrial relationships and feelings, and then finally a quiet acceptance of all that -- a realization that maybe you aren't at a place to know the answers to your questions, but that's okay. the answers either come or they don't and both are okay. etc! etc!
A fish swims through the sea While the sea is, in a certain sense Contained within the fish! Oh, what am I to think Of what the writing Of a thousand lifetimes could not explain If all the forest trees were pens And all the oceans, ink?
In the morning you'll find us, our best years behind us Barefooted pilgrims at shrines of our youth Our joy was electric, our circles concentric Converging on statues of permanence
The entire first verse/part of "February 1878" or "For the past five - almost six years now! and you know you haven't once looked at me with kindness in your eyes! And you say Judas was a brother of mine? Oh, but sister in our darkness a light shines!" or "We sent for the great light and you bring us this? We didn't ask what it seemed like, we asked what it is!" or "So hide behind your laughs awhile, look handsome though you may; Oh, do enjoy that saccharine smile as there comes for you a day." or ...ok maybe the better but more time consuming question is what my favourite line/verse is from each of their songs.
but if you want to stay wherever exactly it is you are, well that's okay, too...it's really none of my business.
this shakes me every time I hear it. i've never heard such humbleness and somber observations that that song. Down by the tracks watching trains go by, to remind me there are places that arent here.
"All creation groans! SHHHHH... ...Listen to it." That was the moment. That was the moment I knew mewithoutYou was one of my favorite bands of all-time.
