Yea this is upsetting

 

something i notice i end up doing so much when im listening to mewithoutYou is shaking my head with a grin on my face, thinking to myself "man, how do these guys do it?"

 

I got my INSTIWB deluxe in the mail today! The plastic sleeve, record cover, and record sleeve are all torn tho :( I emailed Mike so we'll see if there are any replacements.

 

Motion City Soundtrack had a good 1-2 year run as my favorite band, but for a good 3-4 years before that mwY were my favorite band. Today I listened to all 6 mwY records and the accompanying bonus tracks/extra tracks w/e. mwY are back on top. I LOVE every single song. every. single. fucking. song. how is that possible? i have no clue. but ya, im back on the mwY train

I spun it for the first time the other day, it's pretty good if you like the rawness of A to B Life. It's even more raw, actually

 

Its a fine EP. super super raw though, but its also got some great lyrics which saves it.

 

I like to think CFUTF, BS, and PH are a trilogy. Lots of intertwining themes and theyre all similar musically.

 

mwY is probably the most inventively consistent of that group of emo/posthardcore bands they're associated with (Thursday, Brand New, etc). They never overhaul their sound completely (It's All Crazy! aside) but each album is still fresh. It also helps having one of the best rhythm sections in the scene

 

I wonder what it'll sound like now that Greg's gone. Him and Ricky locked in so well.

But fuck, if Ricky isn't the best and most entertaining drummer.

 

Really hoping to get tickets to that show. I know they'll be gone in no time.

 

He probably has the best stage presence of any drummer I've ever seen live

The way he holds his drumstick is fascinating to me, haha. I'll have to try it some time.

Are you talking about how he tends to hold it by the tip and play with the opposite end of the stick instead?

yeah whats up with holding the sticks like that? does it change sound or is it just something he does just because

 

From my limited knowledge of self-taught drumming, it creates louder and "harder" sounds from the drums. Those tips at the end of sticks that have either a ball or tear drop shape change how a hit on the snare, tom, or cymbal sound. Having a blunt rounded end hit them is what gives Ricky that really heavy, hard hitting sound.

 

From my drumming experiences, while it does give the sound an extra "oomf" it isn't much and it'll dent your heads too.

But Rickie is still a dope drummer and mwY is still a dope band

 

I guess this ends any doubt as to the band calling it quits

(not sure, but I feel there was some minor speculation about that)

anyways, always exciting
